If you brush, floss, and rinse with a good rinse like Closys (OTC and much better than Listerine or Scope) right before going to bed (don't forget to scrub all that plaque off your tongue, too!!!), it shouldn't be that bad. The trick is to remove bacteria that will grow in your mouth at night and cause the bad breath. There's no way to remove it all, but good oral hygiene will sure improve it. If you have an unusually strong odor in the morning, you should see a dentist. It could be a sign of gum disease.

The best thing to do is to floss, rinse and brush the night before.
think about it, your eating food, and small particles of the food gets stuck between your teeth, gums and small pockets in the back of your throat. it is essential to floss to get all of the leftover food from in between your teeth, to rinse and gargle to get what the floss may have left behind and to brush your teeth and tongue to remove plaque and stains which may also smell. it is also important to use the adequate amount of tooth paste, you really want to look as if you were foaming at the mouth to neutralize odors. I recommend using waxed floss by GUM. The orange flavored LISTERINE mouth wash and a gel tooth paste by CREST

Everyone has morning breath, I don't think there is any way to prevent it. The only thing you can do is brush your teeth and/or use mouthwash when you wake up to freshen your breath.

Brush your teeth as soon as you wake up. When you're asleep, you aren't building up saliva in your mouth. Morning breath is caused by lack of fluid.

clean your teeth before sleeping at night, and don't forget to brush your tongue as well, because plaque accumulate there too. you have to clean your teeth at least 2 minutes and brush them all carefully. never let food debris left inside and stay for a long time period that can make plaque.

Try sleepwalking. That way-you can brush your teeth before you actually wake-up and you won't remember, AND you'll have fresh breath!
