Aspirin is perfectly ok for dogs. To reduce stomach irritation, use buffered aspirin or if giving regular aspirin give at mealtime. Use 5 grain (325 mg) aspirin tablets. A 60 to 80 lb dog may be given one tablet twice a day (every 12 hours) or 1/2 tablet three times a day (every eight hours). A 30 to 40 lb dog gets half as much; a 15 to 20 lb dog a quarter as much. For chronic arthritis pain, your Vet will have much more effective meds than aspirin, that you could give your dog.Aspirin is also the ONLY type of human pain killer you should give your dog, unless your Vet tells you to use something else.

I think it is ok to give them paracetamol, my friend had a large German Shepard who had severe arthritis and the vet said to give her half a paracetamol if she is in pain. Best thing you can do is have a chat with your vet there always at the end of the line so if you can't get him there give them a ring and they can advise you over the phone.
For godness sake don't give him co- codamol they knock most humans off there feet let alone a poor dog plus it might just kill him.

You are talking long term here, so its not a good idea to put him on human medicine, it could do more harm than good. Take your boy to the vet and get him sorted out properly. One of mine had this horrid condition as well and it took a while before the vet found a pill that suited him, if vet bills are going to be a problem then please don't let the dog suffer, get him onto the PDSA books and the pills and anything else will be free.

def best to check with a vet but when my dog had similar problems she was prescribed anti inflamitaries such as neurafen but there are some much better drugs that are made for dogs. A vet may also be able to suggest human alternatives that could save a few pennies.
Doggy must come first, see the vet soon

Please ask the vet. As Frank has said, animals react differently to different drugs.
Aspirin will kill a cat by causing blood clots on the spinal cord. Dogs can't have paracetamol.
Morphine based tranks make cats manic, they DON'Tsedate cats; its not that they need a larger dose!
This is why its illegal for anyone, even a human doctor, to prescribe madication to an animal, or even offer a diagnosis.
A good vet will tell you cheaper alternatives and tell you the dose.

No! Human painkillers are potentially lethal to dogs! whatever you do, dont ever give a dog painkillers for people. The best thing to buy is arthriti-um tablets from a pet shop. thats the strongest thing you can get without prescription from your vet

No absolutely not! Do not medicate your pup unless prescribed by your vet! Glucosamine as an additive for joints could help but ask your vet! I have researched analgesics for pets and you should only medicate what is prescribed from a vet. Beware if you have a herding breed because the can react differently than other pets. do your research and ask tons of questions of your vet. Seeing them in pain is hard so make your appointment today!

Don't ever give your dog human medicine without talking to a vet. I can't think of the names now, but there are several excellent medications available from your vet specifically designed to control dog arthritis. Do please see your vet and get some. They aren't all that cheap, but this is your beloved dog, and your family member, and I am sure you want to see him or her, being his/her same old active self again.

My vet told me that small doses of asprin are ok for dogs eg quarter of a tablet (BUT NOT FOR CATS) but not on a regular basis, just as a stop gap till you can get to a vet. However why not try a magnatherapy dog collar, you can get them on ebay, I have found this has helped my dog greatly, and it can't be acting as a placibo like in humans, cos she thinks its just her ordinary collar!
