Not the first language, but definitely as a second language. But if not then is okay since it gives us who are bilingual greater opportunities since we are worth more then the average person who speaks just one language when it comes down to looking for jobs.

Nope

not only is english the dominant language here,.. but most other countries in the world involved heavily in commerce in the world speak english as a second language or have an understanding for it.

Why? Great Britian colonized many different places in history. And many of those places or regions are the dominant trading nations of the world today. Even in the asian countries english is understood. What benifit would the future generations of the states get by speaking spanish as apposed to learning a language thats globally dominant... plus we are derived from english speakers historically,...

No. Why should it be? Most people in the US speak English. And I believe that people who move to another country should learn the language of their new country of residence. Maybe not fluently at first, but at least enough to get by. That's what happens in England, where many different communities live along each others (especially in London). They keep a lot of their traditions, and often live in the same areas, but they all speak enough English (most of them speak it fluently, actually) to communicate.

It is easier to learn to read and write Spanish than it is English because Spanish is actually written phonetically (same as Italian), and Spanish does sound much better when spoken properly (I don't like the sound of ANY Germanic language, but that's just me.) But because the majority of people speak English already, I would have to say no.
