Whenever you buy a new frame they always have a piece of cardboard inside the back between the the flimsy paper and the cover on the back.
Do you use it or throw it away?

That cardboard is not acid-free and could damage your artwork over time.

Use it at your own risk!

Like the last person said, the cardboard and paper are not acid free. Over time that acid will cause the photo to deteriorate in quality. If you want to use a backing for the photo, use only acid free paper. here is an article explaining how acid in paper can destroy an image.

I use it to give the photo more stability and a little extra protection in case it ever falls in the floor.

I use them - it helps to put pressure on the picture against the glass to keep it from moving around, which is especially helpful when they're hanging on a wall... :)

I use it...it keeps the picture nice and tight so it doesnt move around in the frame.....
