I grabbed my keys, (I have an emergency clinic about two minutes away, but knew she'd probably die before we got there. I stood there helpless...What should I do, if this ever occurs again ?(praying it doesnt)...

The quickest, safest and fastest way to remove anything that might be blocking your dog's throat is by performing the Heimlich maneuver on it.
Once the object has been removed check your dog to make sure that they are breathing normally and if you find that your dog is still not breathing well or has no pulse then begin artificial respiration or cardio-pulmonary resuscitation right away. Seek immediate medical attention.

AND! if u don't know how to do the Heimlich maneuver....

Place your arm around the dog's chest letting the head and shoulders hang over it. Close your hand to form a fist and bring your other hand around and cover your fist with it. Your two handed fist should be placed between the dog's lower tummy and its rib cage.
Then quickly and firmly thrust your two handed fist inwards and upwards.
Repeat as often as is necessary to dislodge whatever is blocking your dog's airways. If your once you have removed the object your dog is still not breathing then begin AR (artificial respiration) and if it has no pulse CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation). Seek immediate medical attention.

It may sound crazy but do the same when a child is choking. Hold him up on his 2 back legs and use your hands like a backwards hug and just use a quick not to hard pull on the stomach. But not to hard you can brake a rib. Then if they spit it up then or not take them to the vet.

try breaking the treat into smaller pieces, but you could run to the clinic and they could dislodge the treat for you if you cant reach it
