obviously, it's not like she can understand the sentiment of the season, but she'll be there when i give the kids gifts, and it would be nice to be able to give her something.
she's an eight month old black lab
also, what would i possibly wrap a gift for her with? i know that might sound stupid, but i'm sure she'd love the discovery of something INSIDE of something else

I buy my dog a gift every year. This year I got a silver plated dog bowl. In it was a rawhide chew, a bag of dog biscuits, a braided rope toy and a picture frame shaped like a dog. Wrapped it in Christmas paper. He loves to tear it off

Our dog loves gifts. We got him an assortment of dog toys. Santa is bringing him a large rawhide shaped like a candy cane and a stuffed teddy bear. We wrapped the toys from us. He'll have a blast ripping the paper off. He has done it before. We also wrapped a can of tuna and a catnip toy for our cats. However, we have to open those because the cats won't rip into them like the dog does.

No it doesn't. When I was growing up we always got out dog something like a box of dog treats and would punch a small whole in the box and then wrap it. When we would give it to the dog, she could smell the treats and we would let her try to open it. It was a lot of fun to watch, but we would usually end up tearing the paper off for her. Have fun with it.

I have stockings hanging on the mantel for all of us in the family including the two dogs. I get a few special chew toys, rawhide bones and snack treats for them and put them in the stockings. Christmas morning it's funny to watch them find their treats. I'm always amazed how quickly they do it just following their noses. By the way, I put the stockings out Christmas Eve so they're not begging for them the whole season.

I do! And my old dog used to loveeee christmas. We'd wrap a bone or something smelly in wrapping paper and let her open her present right up. Now we have three pugs, they each get a stocking filled with toys and treats. They all pull the stuff right out of their stockings with a little help probably, and trust me they get very excited to see new toys and christmas treats!

As you said, the dog doesn't know the difference...get it a dog toy, a treat to eat, a new food and/or water bowl...a new collar or leash...a name tag for the collar...a new bed...the list could go on...
I wouldn't bother wrapping it...you're putting human traits on a dog re: the "love the discovery of something inside"...she's a dog...if you want to wrap paper around it so she can tear it up, go ahead...but remember that later when she tears up other kinds of paper...she's not going to know the difference...y'know?

YES! Last year wee went to petsart and bouthy our labradore two giant ( three foot long) jelly filled bones! You could also get them penut buttewr filled bones, dried meat, or any treat. Our dog also really like Himalayan dog chew BUT only give your dog a small peice of that so he or she does not choke. You could also get your dog a plushe to cuddle with. Our dog has his "Puppy" that he carries around and sleeps with. The best thing for you dog though, would be to give him or her some quality love and attention.

I always get my dogs a big bone, either a new leash or collar. You can try stuffing the bone in a gift bag with tissue paper. She'd like tearing through it to find the bone.

For this christmas, I got my shih-tzu a box full of her favourite treats and nicely wrapped. Could not get a collar though as she can never get along with it. I believe that my shih-tzu will appreciate my gift even if I will be the one to open it!
