The "Pool of Souls" was an idea of the early and prolific writer Origen (185-232) and was never Christian or Catholic doctrine.

Origen proposed that there exists a world of spiritual beings, including souls, who pre-existed from all eternity. The souls of mankind are taken from this pool of souls.

The mainstream Church of the time thought that Origen's ideas were unfounded and objectionable.

With love in Christ.

i have never heard of that and am trained in teh Catholic faith AND had older Eastern Eurpeoan family so.... we heard a lot of things from the "olden days".... this is entirely new. I have also searched the catechism and - nothing.

i remember the "well of souls" from one of the Indiana jones movies ; ) but other then that.... the Catholic church does not even teach on reincarnation.... for our rebirth is with Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour!

(ash, while knowing nothing about the Catholic beliefs, made derogatory comments - i hopemaybe next time, you'll think before you speak. judge lest ye not be judged - and here you judge based soley on ignorance of the subject. you might want to take some time this Christmas and reflect how your negativity is effecting your life)

Merry Christmas!!

notice that the "Catholic Encyclopedia" available on the internet is over one hundred years old. examining it with the context that it replaced into written the day previous to this would be a foul thought. The Protestant Reformation, the French revolution, anti-clericism, the shortcoming of the Papal States have been lots extra on the strategies of Catholics then than now. Vatican II which you allude to is the Catholic doctrine pronounced in twentieth, no longer nineteenth century words. The writings of the classic Christians teach the form of Christian doctrine. Greek theory had concerns that weren't totally or rapidly addressed through the Apostles (the two in oral custom or as recorded in scripture). The Reformation did place self belief in many the training of Augustine and rejected the legalism of Aquinas. examining those 2 would desire to offer you a extra constructive sense for the adjustments between Catholic and Protestant theory. i do no longer think the immortality of the soul is in question. what's, is the efficacy of grace, does grace totally sanctify the human (as taught through Catholics) or does grace in basic terms conceal over and conceal the sinful nature of human beings (as taught through the Reformers). because of the fact the Reformation, the strategies of the reformers have been changed, supplemented, and rejected. that's uncertain if there's a unified standard Protestant place on those questions.
