Cat's only have one life, like all other creatures. It's only because they've got this mysterious ability to survive many sort of accidents (falling off very high buildings) that's prevent them from dying at a more expected, earlier time - and hence, makes us think they've got "more lives".

1, like every other mammal, but they are remarkable lucky, tough and good at getting out of tight spots which is where the idea comes from. I suspect it is a play on the cat of nine tails which is a sort of whip used on ships in the past. That is where the phrase "no room to swing a cat." comes from.

they have one...duh. i tested this theory, see me and my friend keith caught a cat and we both shot it over and over with our BB/pellet gun. it died, and you know what? it didn't come back to life. its dead and has been rotting for about a few months now some where out in the desert.
