THANK YOU! I'd like to know the same thing. If people don't have a religion, then why can't they just ignore it like you. Instead some of them choose to go out of their way to do something about it, and I don't see the point.

I think I am a religious person, in some ways. I don't like organised religion in which people are told what to do, on the pain of death, or exclusion. I don't like too that people can't argue or question.
It is a lot of nonsense to say that religion is behind all wars. Were the World Wars fought on the premise of religion? No - greed for land. Sure, some religion was brought in to justify their actions, but that wasn't the cause of the wars. It is ignorance to say that.
Many people like to sneer at religion too, it is satisfying to point fingers at people's apparent stupidity. However, I've seen things myself that aren't explainable, and which have convinced me that there's more than we understand out there.
Again, by the way, no religion condones paedophilia and it is nonsense to suggest it.
I think that there are many people who replace religion with a loathing for it. Which, I suppose, it has brought on itself to a large extent by it's bullying.
I go through my life trying to live as Jesus commanded me to. I ignore the prophets, the disciples and anyone else. And I'm happier doing that.

We don't hate religion with a real passion, but we are forced to take notice because religion is stuffed down our throat at every corner. Political decisions are made with the help and 'encouragement' of religious groups, religious groups get privileges that no other group gets, plays in theatres are shut down because of religion, wars are fought because of religious....we could go on and on and on and on....someone has to stand up against such insanity.

If you think about it carefully, wars and crimes are ALL to do with Religion or Money. They are both evil and can cause murders. Thats why people hate it. I beleive in god, of course i do, it feels safe to think there is someone higher than us, but to go all out and be a religious fanatic is just a joke.

I think because no atheist can be content to do their own thing - atheists shouldnt be seen as anything - by which I mean they dont have to say 'I dont believe in Unicorns' so why should we be forced to defend not believing in God and his prophet super-team which is the same thing?
I hate how people can preach about a moral guide from someone as evil and despicable as God or Allah and how dare they tell me whats right or wrong?
I love science, and in a sense truth itself - part of that means resenting things which are antithetical to truth. I despise religion. It is a crutch for people who are emotionally and mentally weak.

I don't hate religion; I dislike some of its followers, but "hate" is a pretty strong term. I do dislike religion because it seems to foment hate in its believers and encourages ignorance. Most of the really religious I have observed are misogynistic, xenophobic, homophobic, and generally unwilling to consider scientific observation or provable conclusions. I get a little tired of religious folks calling me stupid or ignorant because I refuse to have supernatural beliefs. But hate? Nah. I'll leave hate to the faithful.

Religion stagnates the spiritual evolution of humanity. The dogma and absolution it creates within the hearts and minds of those whom attach to it keep them from seeking true spiritual understanding. Religion is at the foundation of all self righteousness and hypocrisy in this world. The elitists use religion as a means of controlling the masses.

I come here to waste time when it's boring at work, but I don't hate religion. I just think it's an outdated concept.
That, and I mock everything.

A better question would be "Why does religion hate some people with a real passion"?

The childish, deliberately insulting, dangerous, and violent behavior of so many religious people.
All other reasons pale in comparison with that one.
Bahaus, it is the believers who need to ask themselves those questions. The misbehavior here is their fault.
