generals more and to the senators less or the other way around. I believe that the generals know what to do and how to do it and on the battlefield their word should be law. I do not think that our elected representatives have the knowledge to direct things on the battlefield and should not be telling the soldiers what to do. I think things would be better in Iraq if we let the generals do the battle planning and keep our politicians out.

Actually, oddly enough, Good ol' georgie boy is listening to his military advisors (joint chief's of staff, the "Generals"), recently they have been letting on a few things. One, that they are going to start recruiting more service members, to decrease deployment tempo for our boys and girls out there wich for the army is a year on and a year off, and for the Marines is 7 months there and five months back in the states. Two, that they are already planning that the only way they will have a massive call up of Reservist's is if they have a desiscive win in mind. Not that they haven't called up a hellava lot of reservist's already, when they say massive they mean most of them at the same time. Another thing though is that there is alot of stuff going on, over there right now. How can we go over there and proverbiably cut off a countries arm and tell them "tough, deal with it". I dont think that's what america stands for.

I think the question has a problem. The word "should" sounds nice but the only people he hears are the yes men/woman around him. "Will" is a better choice and add another option the staff around him that got us into this fix in the first place.

He is not going to listen to the generals over there as they don't agree with him (so are retiring). This guy listens to NO one out side of his little group.

If he could lay out a specific goal (after working with people who know something) call the military and say how, cost, options and success rate choose one say go and call me when it's over, then there would be some hope.

This President should listen to somebody. He hasn't bothered to give a hoot what either Congress or the Generals have had to say. Instead, he has relied on the dubious advice of corrupt and venal old dunderheads like Rumsfeld and Cheney. That being said, one of the great things about our country -- one of the things that makes it stand out as better than any country that has ever been -- is that our military is commanded at the top by civilians. It worked out pretty well for us in The War of 1812, The American Civil War, The Spanish American War, WWI, and WWII. If we, as citizens of this great nation can't figure out how to elect somebody competent to lead our military. Then, well hell, I don't even know what.

Let the Army do its job and keep politics out of it. A Army is just that, not a police force. It is not nice, and people get killed. BUT, once dead, they do not come back to fight again after being released from jail. You would think that we learned our lesson in Vet Nam. Keep the press and politicians out of it.
