it seems more practical to brush your teeth after you eat breakfast. Not only is it more hygenic ( there will be nothing stuck in your teeth after brushing your teeth) and your breath will stay fresher longer. And if you think its unhygenic to have breakfast before you have breakfast why do you think it is so?

TOTALLY AGREE. I brush twice a day.... AFTER breakfast and in the evening before I go to bed. Doesn't make sense when people brush their teeth before breki then end up having minty toothpasty flavoured cereal or breki - its even worse when u try and drink orange juice or soming afterwards (tried it once and it was horrible)

between me and you i think it's nastyyyyyyyyy to eat your breakfast without brushing your teeth. I know that over night you get some kind of chemical building up on your tongue which is supposed to be really good for your digestive system but let's not forget that you breath will stink over night and that your taste buds won't be able to let you know what you eating because of that chemical on your tongue. All you have to do, if not too lazy, is to brush your teeth first thing in the morning and have a glass of water before breakfast. then when you done, just brush your teeth again.

simple!!!!

I brush my teeth before I eat breakfast. My brother used to do it after breakfast when he was at home. He's in college now so I don't know what he does anymore.

I can't believe you don't know it!
The main goal of brushing our teeth is to avoid caries and sarro, at least before commercials made us believe that toothpaste was something more than health but aesthetics and good breath.

Then, the fact is that the bacteria which causes caries are already in our mouth, specially on our tongue, and, specially remain there after long ours of sleeping. Food just reacts with those bacteria and get them to develop caries. To avoid it, we can do two things: either brush our teeth before eating, and then remove the previously existing bacteria, or afterwards, and then remove the bacteria and the food remaining altogether. However, if we choose the second, we have to do it straigth after eating, without letting time go on, otherwise, we will risk the reactions happen before the brushing.
Consequently, dentists advice to brush your teeth BEFORE eating, even though, if your main concern is not health, but breath, the best choice is doing it afterwards, undoubtedly.

During night many bacteria from intestine and stomach come up to mouth. Secondly if some food particles had arrested in teeth gaps they get decayed. Therefore it is necessary to brush in the morning after you wake up and not before breakfast.

Well, first of all, people do feel that they have bad breath in the morning time, that's why they minimize it by brushing their teeth, despite of the ineffectiveness due to having to do the same thing again after having breakfast.
But, not all of them do that, some may only gargle with mouthwash, some eat mints, some have breakfast first.
The point is, it depends on your habit. If you do so all the time, you'll feel weird if you don't do it anymore. It like something's missing.

So, happy brushing, I guess................................

after wake up in the morning, our mouth pH is very low, so some people brush their teeth to neutralize it (so do I). But, actually, there is no differences between brushing your teeth after or before breakfast. The most important thing is rinse your mouth after eating, it can rise your mouth pH again.

I have a friend who brushes thier teeth as soon as they get up in the morning, then after eatting. She says its to get rid of the taste in her mouth in the mornings. she says she likes to have a fresh mouth before she eats aswel as after. She doesnt smoke so i cant say its that that gives her the bad mouth taste so duno. I guess that why others proberly do.

I prefere to brush after eatting makes more sence and brushing too much too often removes the enamel from your teeth

it is usually a natural reaction that has been there since our parents made us do it lol but it actually better to do it after breakfast and to try and use fluoride tablets twice a week at night time brushing to make sure they are well cleaned as they show up plaque.
