There might have been less order in old societies, because religion has helped to control people & make them be more moral. However, if there was an end put to religion now, I think it would be a lot more peaceful world. There would be no wars fought on religious grounds & less discrimination & hatred.
Also, people whose personal liberty is restricted by religion would be a lot more free, for example able to wear & eat what they want.
People might find life more difficult, with less consolation surrounding death.
There would be more money in society, less put into the church...
...I could go on...

Governments only consider social justice because the religious vote puts pressure on them to do so. I would hate to see the world without World Vision and untold millions given by church people to the poor and disadvantaged. What would be the incentive for moral behaviour. As for John Lennon...imagine no possessions...he died with millions in the bank while millions died around the world...what a hypocrite - At least Bill Gates has given away 25billion.

Well some say more peaceful but if you look at the USSR, who denied that God existed, attacked Afghanistan and others. We have obtained our morals and ethics from religion. "Most" religion teach tolerence and respect. I believe the world would be a far worse place

Today's world is a world without true religion. Men have wars in the name of religion and kill innocent people in the name of religion. Some religions put into practice "traditions" that benefit them, not their congregation. Just like priest not marrying, thats not even in the Bible. As a result they molest and rape children, all in the name of religion.....

it would be a more peacefull place. more wars have been started and more people killed over religious beliefs than anything else. anyone who believes that no religion means that sin would overtake everyone is just niaeve. morals have little to do with religion. knowlege of right from wrong is not handed down by god(s); it is instilled by others. the absense of religion would simply mean that since "hell" would no longer exist there would be no way to SCARE people into being nice. they would have to rely on themselves and the teachings of those who came before.

it would be like a perpetual sodom and gomorah, even though they had prophets and false teacher and false religion

Wouldnt see much of a change I think. The killing in the name of god isnt about religion, its about DOMINION. Dominion of what one thinks, learns and how they behave.
Education is the most efficient form of rebellion!!!!! 8o)
