Hello.

I work within the health department and i personally dont think anyone will ever actually find a CURE for colds. There are so many diffierent cold viruses and each year new viruses are being discovered. Take Antibiotics for an example. The no longer work for the most common colds. What works once doesnt have the same effect again, as the virus becomes immuned to them and evolve to beat them.

We can however do all we can to PREVENT ourselves from catching colds. Prevention is better than a cure.
1) WRAP UP WARM
2) DONT EXPOSE YOURSELF TO CONSTANT
CONSTANT CHANGES IN TEMPERTURE LIKE HOT
TO COLD TOO OFTEN.
3) EAT OFTEN. As the saying goes and its so true, "feed
a cold and starve a fever". Eatting plenty gives viruses
something else to eat away at rather than your immune
system.
4) TAKE VITAMIN C AND ZINC TABLETS / CAPSULES
ONCE EVERYDAY. These help to keep your immune
system in good working order and helps to strengthen
your virus fighting cells and blood vessels.
5) KEEP THROAT SWEETS, COLD REMEDIES NEAR
BY, So when you feel your getting the start of a cold
you can start taking them instantly to lessen the effect.
Take 2 Paracetamol every 4 four hours for the first day
or two at the sign of a cold.
I had the start of what may of been a cold last week. Woke up with a light head and and a sore throat. So I took 2 paracetamol every four hours for two days, and sucked throat sweets and nothing more has come of it.

6) WASH YOUR HANDS AT EVERY OPERTUNITY AS
THIS WILL DECREASE YOU CHANCE OF CATCHING
SOMEONE ELSES COLD.

7) HAVE EARLY NIGHTS AND DONT MAKE YOURSELF
OVER TIERD. OUR IMMUNE SYSTEMS FOR
FIGHTING OFF COLDS ARE ALWAYS MOST AT
RISK WHEN WE ARE DOWN AND TIERD.

8) ALLOW FRESH AIR INTO YOUR BEDROOM
THROUGHOUT THE DAY, CLOSE A WINDOW
EARLY EVENING TO GIVE YOUR ROOM TIME TO
WARM UP BEFORE BEDTIME.

Apparantly there are over 200 different viruses for the common cold. You never catch the same virus twice because aftet the first time your body develops anitbodies to that particular virus. To become immune to a cold you will have to contract all the viruses so that you body can develop anitibodies. 200 colds can take at least two lifetimes to contract. Chances are the common cold is here to stay.

They have found a cure...but you REALLY don't want it! The side effects of antiviral drugs are really not pleasant (not to mention they are really expensive to produce and are kept in reserve for life-threatening situations like HIV-infection). Stick with the fever ;)

/edit: HIV can't be cured because it has a very efficient way of hiding. But the antiviral drugs hit it pretty hard nonetheless - enough so that you can have kids, sex, etc. But you will be on the drugs the rest of your life and as I said the side-effects are almost intolerable.

I suppose we will have it this century. I am looking forward to giving the nobel prize to the person who will find it. This may provide the cure for HIV, Hepatitis viruses and all other viruses. This may also extent to finding a way of curing cancer. Well with advance technology nowadays, I think we will find it soon (prothetic timings lol)

In a word: No.

I reckon the pharmaceutical companies make far too much money off the sale of cold remedies to make finding a cure profitable.

The virus that causes a cold is constantly mutating, so you never actually get the same cold twice. A cure for one version may not work with another, so unless a generic kill-all-viruses drug is invented, then probably not.

Have you ever tried "Zicam?" As close as your going to get to feeling cured. Works pretty good. Don't forget to try "Air Borne" before heading out into the world of germs. It will protect you from others who are already sick. I'm liking these two products! Give them a try. Also "Cold Eeze." The Zicam will reduce your symptoms and make you feel good enough to go to work.

Mrs B has it bang on - the pharmaceutical companies probably know of a 'cure' for this type of virus already. Development of that one drug would have such an adverse effect on them that they continue to palm us of with medicines to control the symptoms - at great expense to us - and great profit to them.

I imagine the same will happen with a cure for cancer.
