How many times is this going to be asked? Oh well, here we go again (I would go back and find my answer earlier, but I'm too lazy). He's only 17 and he might not have much money. Ask him if he wants to split the cost before you go, or just bring money and offer when you get there. Good luck!

I would always pay unless she insisted that I don't. The only exception is if I'm not sure we're officially boyfriend/girlfriend and I don't want to offend her if she thinks we're just friends.
If you are his first girlfriend, then cut him some slack, maybe he just doesn't know what to do. The only way I can see this being an issue is if he's always asking you to pay or always INSISTS on splitting everything down the middle. Both of these show a big potential problem. Either he likes to use other people (if he wants you to pay all the time), or he wants to keep everyone at an arm's length (if he always splits everything down the middle he's either very cheap or he doesn't want anyone to get close to him). So if one of these things are happening, you might have a problem.
Just watch to see how he behaves from now on, and more importantly, how he treats you with everything else. If he's a problem guy, you'll have plenty of other signs to let you know.

Pfft. No. In fact, I'd make sure she was willing to pay half before the date even started. Women and men are equal now; guys shouldn't be paying women for the "pleasure of their company" like a prostitute.

Personally you should go halves on everything. Nothing wrong with this and insist on it. Show's that you are strong and independent and you won't feel obligated to comply with anything he may demand. (like sex).
Puts you both on equal footing.

yes they will automatically paid for the first date.. you may ask to go halves.. to show that u care.. but usually they wont take your money.. if he do.. then u have a stingy bf.. :p

yes i automatically pay on the first second and third date basically all dates unless she makes a big deal of paying.

its not like paying for having pleasure with gal,
But you know -- its the first step in making the first impression.
Although girls and guys are equal , but u know it has been like a trend that guy would pay on the first date so gals have the tendency of not sharing any bill on the first date, And in this situation if the guy would ask her to pay, then it would wound very odd.
And those who are comparing their gf's with prostitutes .... shame on them
