Okay, I volunteered to babysit these two cats for some people going to the mainland for a month (I'm in Hawaii), and only a few days later I discover one of the cats dropping tiny pink/white dots. They are about the size of the tiny cat litter pellets, but in closer inspection I found that they move. I'm freaking out a bit because after that first one, I started to find more--and bigger!

Since they are not mine, I am not sure whether I should try to take them to the vet myself (is that possible?) or if I should find something for them to take/be sprayed with to get rid of them.

Has anyone else seen anything like this before, or know what I could treat it with? I never had anything like this in mind when I offered to watch after them. I've never had cats before...@_@ this is not something I ever guessed would happen! :'(

The one that I deffinately found them on is male, 6 mo. old, and sneezes constantly, and sometimes with blood. I noticed a topic for that too...suggestions?

Deworming.........................

Sounds like Tape worm.

There is only one over the counter dewormer that works on Tape worms. It is in a little bottle that has two pills in it I believe. Any other OTC wormer will not work for tape worms, make sure you read the lables to see if it works on TapeWorm. You can get tape worm meds at Petco or Petsmart.

Tape worms are caused from the cats ingesting fleas, so it is likely they also have fleas. You might try bathing them and getting some advantage to put on them.

Hope this helps!

Side note: All of the liquid dewormers that I have seen DO NOT kill tapeworm so be careful about what you are purchasing or the problem will not go away.

Also..I didnt see the part about the bloody sneezing. These kitties sound like they need to see a vet.

You need to call the vet right away and tell them what you see and explain to them also about some other things that the male cat is experiencing along with the worms and ask them what you should do.

If you have a number to reach these people and the money to take the cats to the vet then i would call them and ask them if they mind, trust me they will thank you in the long run because worms can really do some damage and sometimes even kill a pet if you don't take care of them.

i would guess that they are some type of worms which would be escaping from the cats bottom after living in the stomach, the white dots will be more eggs i suggest taking the cat to the vets for some worm treatment - you could just buy regular de-worming tablets but as your cat already has the worms and there are a few different types these are not guaranteed to work hope your kitty feels better soon

Go to your nearest pet store and get some medication to give to them and see if there is a chance you could halt the worms. They often sell de-worming kits that work pretty well, so , go too your nearest pet store, speak with someone about your situation and explaining to them that they are your friends cats, but you want to help them; it's really not that expensive and you would most certainly make the poor animals feel better. And when your friend returns, make them aware of the situation so they could possibly follow up with a vet visit. The cat would be very greatful you took the time to help. God bless you.

The tiny white things coming out of the cat's butt are tapeworm segments. They are not fatal nor truly do much harm to the cat if left untreated for a week or so or more. My cats had them months ago and I researched them quite a bit. Their presence tend to freak cat owners more than they actually harm the cat. BUT they need to be rid off, like any parasite. A dose of Prazequantel (can be bought in Petsmart or Petco in bottles with 3 pills each) will kill them. But since cats get tapeworm from ingesting fleas, you need to treat both the tapeworm problem and the flea problem. I suggest you let the owners deal with that problem.

As for the kitty that is sneezing constantly, that sounds like a vet trip to me. Perhaps its just a case of the commin kitty cold but it could be something worse. So, have it checked out.

Hi! I would take them to the vet. You may have to pay yourself, unless the vet is familiar with the owners, and is willing to bill them. Maybe call the owner? Ask permission to take them to the vet? The one sneezing: There NEVER should be blood with a cats sneeze. Many cats and dogs will sneeze occasionally, but it is not normal to constantly sneeze. They do need medical attention however.

There are a lot of over the counter meds that you can purchase in the grocery stores, some by "Hartz" etc. You just place it in their food they won't even know it. You need to discuss that with his owners, worms in the long run can make him really sick if unattended and I am worried about him sneezing with blood he sounds like if he might be sick already, they should take him a vet a.s.a.p. Good luck.

First off, look at the cats gums if they are pinkish in color then they could possibly have worms. Though it seems as if you have already saw the worms in their poo. What to do? If you have any contact for the owners and ask them. Or go to a pet store or most grocery stores in the pet section has worm medicine. And there is always the vet. I don't see why you could not take them.

Don't treat the cat without advice from a vet. There are different types of worms, and different treatments for different types. I'd take it to the vet and make the owners pay for it when they get back.

go to a walgreens or wal mart or any store like that. buy a liquid cat wormer (you absolutley cannot use a dog wormer) or if they dont have liquid any other will do follow the instructions on the box. then you will end the worm problem. i only wish it was so easy to de-worm computers! lol
