For some people faith and prayer IS thinking positive. Faith and prayer is what gets them through the rough periods in their life. Believing that they are not alone in any situation and that they are loved helps people survive the hard times where without it they would probably just give up. To those people who have faith and who pray, its not a waste of time, but a necessity.

Faith and prayer are not a waste of time, prayers are always answered. Even if you don't think it is productive prayer is at the very least an opportunity to clear your mind and with that you can create positive thoughts.

faith and prayer, to some, may give people a sense of 'hope'. It's common for people who are struggling to ask for guidance from their 'higher power', and plead for some much needed help.
I don't consider myself to be a religious junkie, but I do, from time to time, reach out, through 'silent requests' to my higher power for some strength, or guidance. Sometimes I think only I can provide that answer to my questions. I think everyone has it in them to ask questions that they think only a "God" can help them with, but in reality, they have the answers already within themselves.
Thinking positively can also have an impact on how you resolve certain issues.
Some think that their 'faith' in finding jobs or finding the perfect mate is what is a result of where they are in their lives. But I think everyone makes 'choices' in their lives that determine the outcome, altogether...

prayer isn't a waste. instead of worrying about other people's productivity why not worry about your own and go do something for a good cause? like ring a bell for the salvation army in front of walmart. get off the computer go do it NOW! :)

Its never a waste of your time to do something that you are passionate about, that makes you happy, or that you truly believe in. It would only be a waste of time if you could be doing something better with that time.

I dont know who you are, but your day will come when you will find out for yourself who GOD really is. So many times people willl turn a cold back to GOD if He does not answer their request with a favorable answer. But GOD can see farther ahead in time and knows whats best for each one of us. He isn't like Santa Claus...sit on his lap and tell him what you want and supposingly you get it on Christmas day! I have prayed prayers to God and have gotten a 'no'answer and it really disappointed me. But as time went by I found out why GOD answered no instead of yes and I was extremely grateful. So you must come humble before His throne of Grace and ask in Faith for what you desire and if it's in God will (HIS divine plan) for you to have such, you will. But know that God soesn not always answer yes to every prayer we pray. Does that mean we should stop praying? No, that means we should trust Him and get to know Him better. Because when we learn of Him, we will learn better how to pray and how to accept God's answer with thankfulness. We all wonder sometimes about such things, but don't allow satan to overtake your mind with negative thoughts because he is jsut after your faith to discourage and even destroy your relationship with God. Get in the Word, study, study, study daily. You may notice that I did not say read. Studying the Bible is different from reading the Bible. Studying means to search for truth and understanding and it's the Holy Spirit's job to show it to you if you ask Him too. How would you feel if you were rejected because someone you love with all your heart required something from you that you KNEW would be a danger to them but you refused to give it to them? God is LOVE and He has feelings just like you and I. We must learn to trust His divine wisdom in all aspects of our lives. When one walks away from God where can He go? Just like there isnt but TWO races on earth-the lost and the saved. There also isnt but TWO rulers/fathers on this earth-ruler/father of the lost and ruler/Father of the saved. One hates your guts and wants to make your life miserable until your dying day. And the other wants to give you peace, joy, love, strength, comfort, forgiveness and so much more. There is no in-between lane. Choose this day whom you will serve. Pay no attention to some of these foolish answers given here. Because like you, they also will find out there is a true Almighty God and His Word will continue to fulfill whether we believe it or not, like it or not, stand for His Kingdom or stand against it. To not fear God is not wise, is it?

Religion and religious devotion gives comfort to lonely, insecure people who have little else in life to distract themselves with.
If they did not pray to God, they'd probably shoot up heroin and substitute the void in their minds with an illegal drug of some sort.
Praying to God is harmless. Worshipping alcohol, ecstacy, cocaine and heroin can kill.
