I sincerely wish that religious people and atheists could meet a bit more... respectfully, but unfortunately, an atheist questioning your faith is insulting to you. And we understand this. Some of us, I admit, get a kick out of insulting you. Speaking only for myself, I do not.

However, it is a very touchy subject, and I apologize for any "disrespect" you may have experienced on the part of my fellow atheists. But the fact is, and I mean this sincerely... we do care about you. And we are simply trying to give you the knowledge that we have, regarding your religion. (But I admit, as I said... some folks are simply picking at you... and I apologize) But honestly, if you want to impress an atheist, and/or get him off your back, the key is to TALK to him, not in an argumentative way, but have a rational discussion about your beliefs. Explain to that atheist why you believe, and LISTEN to the atheist when he tells you why he doesn't.

Seriously, that is all we ask. If you can politely debate and/or defend your beliefs to an atheist, and feel confident that you've done a good job of it, more power to you.

But in my experience, what frustrates me the most, and I think this is true of most atheists, is that most religious folks get angry too quickly. They won't truly debate. It turns into a mudslinging match, and we respond in kind. I am guilty of this, myself, I admit. But I do try my best not to.

Anyway, if you would like to talk about your faith, I'm always willing to discuss it. Just email me. I'm just one dude, but hey, maybe you'll convert me. :)

I'm an atheist and I'm tired of Christians saying we are evil and working for Satan and then getting upset when an atheist returns that disrespect with disrespect. Don't dish out disrespect if you don't want any in return. It goes both ways.

Like Captain Atheism wrote, some of you get insulted if we as much as ask questions and you respond with insults. You need to stop assuming that there is a hidden, mean purpose behind our questions. Just try to answer the questions and consider it an opportunity to strengthen your own faith rather than a chance to get judgemental and throw insults around.

Open your mind and have a Merry Christmas.

'Atheists are trolls' - Fox News 'Atheists just try to make people mad' - Fox News 'Don't you think it's a bit offensive for you to say to people that you're an atheist?' Piers Morgan to Ricky Gervais I don't really understand how having the knowledge that someone doesn't believe what you do is offensive, unless you are angered when you can't actually justify your faith to yourself. Did you see the atheist bus campaign in London? I thought it was pretty cool.

Actually, I do not let them bother me as I do know that some day they too will bow before the LORD and will declare that Jesus is Lord of Lords.

What I can not understand, is that although they deny that God exist, many of them sure to PRAY to HIM a lot.

I work with one and he is always addressing GOD and asking Him to do something. This IS a prayer. Of course, he should be glad that God does not answer them. as he is always asking GOD do dam something or other.

I would rather ask GOD's blessings on others...including the atheist as we know all good things come from GOD. It may well be the only blessings they will ever have. Still, I have no idea why they are so afraid to simply ask GOD to show them the truth..after all, God did say they that seek HIM will find HIM. IF GOD really does not exist..what do they have to fear?

The thing is, its tiring to explain rationaly with someone who doesn't accept rationality as a valid explanation. Religious people are like little kids that get lost in what you have to say after 2 seconds.

And then they go "nyeh nyeh ne nyeh nyeh - you can dish it out but you can't take it!" He he he... The only thing that Christians have really is a support group. They need to ask questions like these so they can count those who side with them. Then they feel better. If a majority of people around the world were born atheist, trust me, these people will be atheists as well.

I sometimes have to remind myself that you can't save everybody from ignorance. They have to decide to save themselves. There is a saying that the hardest people to awaken are those pretending to be asleep.

sigh.
selective reading i see.
its the christians who fly off the handle the most, tho i admit there are a few atheists who are just as loose.
i don't get mad at getting put down, i do get mad when i'm preached to, or when confronted with the stubbornness that would impress a donkey. no offense meant, but its true in some people.

Think of It this way, not really something we should get concerned over, let Atheists believe what they want, and in return if they are mature they should let us believe what we want.
Atheists can't put down GOD because a true atheist denies his very existence, so there would be no one to make fun of.

Atheist here. I have personally never put down your god. I don't care what you believe in or if you critize me for the fact that I don't believe in anything. I think that tolerance of different ways of believing or not believing is what is called for here. Obviously, you feel threatened by Atheists or you wouldn't come on here and try to get believers to make a fuss. Believe what you want and leave the rest for your god to handle. Isn't that what he/she is supposed to do?
This war is old.

Ps. As an Atheist, I do not think of it as a religion. I don't spend time thinking about not believing. I just don't believe there is a god anywhere and that when I die...I die. I don't believe in heaven and hell and in sin. I don't believe in anything other than what I can see and what is real. Everything else is just imagination and brain-washing. Take it or leave it. Everyone in my family believes in your god and Jesus. I respect them. I don't put them down. It is their lives and I have mine. They respect me and don't go around saying that I will go to hell. RESPECT, RESPECT, RESPECT! Respect your fellow human beings. The world would be a much more loving place if everyone did that.

In a way atheist have their own religion (science, wealth etc.), and they take the same offense that everyone else does when its attacked. I disagree with the can't take it thing, they are just convinced that christians are stupid and beneath them cause they are "smart enough" to see that there is no god.

It goes both ways. I have seen nasty attacks with Christians calling atheists uncivil names with enough smugness to disgust any decent person and then cry foul when the atheists counteract.
Both sides dish it out and neither side wants it thrown back into their faces. It's a stupid battle.
