Russia's current president, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, term is suppose to end this time around next year, but what if it doesn't? How would the United States respond to this? Due to recent things going on in RUssia, such as reporters have gone 'missing' and have been murdered because they covered contentious stories on Russia's campaign in Chechnya, organized crime, state and administrative officials, and large businesses. It appears that Putin is trying to due with glasnost, or trying to alter it in his favor where he has control over the media. So, like I said before, what if his term doesn't end and he wants to become president of the country longer?

"Mr. Putin has already hand-picked his successor "

Oh wow, so what? Putin can still extend his power and make his term longer. What can stop and who can stop him? Nothing? I mean, he was once in the KGB...

The people in Russia most definitely need to stand up against PUTIN and his hand picked succesor. Putin believes very much still in the old ways of Russia. He is teaming up with Iran also. He and his form of government will surley hurt Russia. The people have gotten VERY modernized to live in that way I don`t think they will stand for it. I don`t think many agree with it but like in Iran & Iraq they are scared of the man and the way he runs his administration so they do nothing. It will most interesting to see how the future of Russia plays out.
I hope Bush doesn`t get any ideas to get rid of him like he did Suddom ....This time maybe he will just go in secretley shoot him and his administration in the head get out and be done with it.

The problem is that Russia is the 2nd largest oil producer on earth and that explains in large part the West's tip-toeing around this controversial issues. I would like to see a more critical attitude but until the West weans itself off this dependence on Russia - arguably via renewables and deals with more reliable suppliers e.g. Norway - we are stuck in this rut of not being able to be more assertive with them.
