Canada did not join the union during the American revolutionary war.

In the war of 1812 the United States attempted to invade Canada. They believed that the many people in Canada who had immigrated from the United States would side with the United States. Big mistake. Canada basically kicked the butt of the United States and burned the capital.

The war resulted in a truce and friendship. The revolutionary war had shown to the British that they couldn't hold the United States (as the United States couldn't hold Vietnam and is having trouble "holding" Iraq").

Follow up question, why are there no film's about the war of 1812. In fact the movie The Master and the Commander was based on a book about the war of 1812, but in the movie the American ship was changed to a French ship.

If I'm not mistaken the war of 1812 was between The US and the UK. And yes they tried for Canada but that was not the reason it started.
