Now I am NOT putting down your beliefs because I don't believe in doing so. But I am aware that many athiests and agnostics read the Bible in order to find things so that they may put down the Christians. I'm not saying EVERYONE does. That's a generalization. This is a question for those who DO. It's just something that I've wondered. I see people post questions on here taking Bible verses out of context and telling christians to explain themselves when they make no sense. Why go through the effort to try to make someone lose their faith? Once again, I'm not putting anyone down or judging anyone. I'm just curious and once again please do not say that I'm generalizing everyone under the category.

redhotsillypepper, here's the question rephrased because you didn't grasp the concept. Ok, now I wouldn't start researching satanism or wiccan religions for example just throw it in people's faces who live by these. I just say people should live and let live.

"another face in the crowd" the question wasn't about rebutting. It's about people who specifically read the Bible in order to come to answers to bash christians and take the Bible out of context.

Sorry. I came to atheism after studying the bible. I believed in it. Studied. Now don't believe. I don't "search" in order to find errors. I was pretty disappointed when I found them.
Most atheists I know are the same, so I'm not really sure you'll find this type you're describing.

Theists prove the existence of god to the atheists by quoting the 'bible'.
Then they go a step further and call them 'sinners'
They don't stop there but assign them to eternal hell.
The theists talk of 'Gods Love' and then call the atheists names
and assign them to Hell.
The atheist finds this difficult to digest.
He visits the bible to clear the confusion.
Finds that the bible provides him with more than enough ammuno to blast the 'god light' out of the theist.
The theists starts crying this is my 'belief' Keep away.
The Atheist can only laugh......................
Because in the first instant it was the theist who went after the atheist with the bible in his hand.
Why can't you understand atheism is my 'belief' based on logic and rationality, human and humane values. I cannot accept something because it is 'written" in your Book. Thus keep it with you and be happy and leave me to my own happiness.
Either you keep away or stop crying if you cannot answer, questions to obvious flaws in the book and your concept of god.
Nikkity I do see your point.
But since this question deals with 'those who' it becomes 'general'
Why should someone try to pull down someone else for no reason at all.
You may be of a different mould. But then how many are so ?
Since "you don't" there is every reason to ( at the least) wonder Why? if not feel offended or hurt.
Atheist - (according to christians- non-believers ie. including people belonging to other faiths) - do feel offended and sometimes deeply hurt by the total lack of sensitivity on part of the christians ( specially those who are in responsible positions in the christian church and the hardcore evangalists addresing a large gathering ) when they pass irresponsible coments on others. 'thou shall rot in hell' ' you are the devils advocate' 'the anti-christ shall rise in the middle east' etc., etc.,and finally 'come to christ and be saved'
This 'being offended' and feeling of 'hurt' is what I was referring to which makes the atheist look into the bible.
And then any and every christian becomes a target.
Moreover "everything is fair in love and war"
Thus where does the 'cause' lie because you are only talking of the 'effect'.
Unless you hold the point that for no reason Atheist target Christians well........... then........Just look around

I am agnostic liberal and a democrat living in colorado springs and they say they are the ones on the attack pleeease the reason i read the bible is to create a conclusion after i analyze the script so i know why most the evangilicals where i live are so not all of them but blind and narrow minded THATS why i dont put people down but where i live this is my opnion not trying to be offensive but nothing makes since all the stuff in there is so ill logical and not making since the book makes the whole god theory irrelavent not to mention there is no hard evidence.. like when birds came before humans but if there where no humans to name the birds then how does that work thats illogical right there.and when they say alot of people lived for many centurys does it meen on our calander they lived for 900 typical western cycles or a primitve yearly schedule wich moved much faster i would think as medacine got better wich they didnt have modern medicine you would live longer but in egypt 5000 years ago maximum age lived to was 48
so how is it possible they lived for 900 years in some cases and 1024 in others ? it is illogical and pushing human biological cababilitys it said also water covered the whole planet! then if thats true it would of gone above everest and thats almost 30000 feet and you need a oxyegen tank around 18-20 k feet so they all would of blacked out and sufficated...there are many things in biblical propheices that do not make since rendering the story illprobable and illogical unless for the last two the biological structure of humans where much different and humans where to say super human and could with stand such things and i think it is obserde that we know with hard facts that there are a un calculable ammount of planets in the universe and it says god created our solar systems planets and life and the whole universe in 7 days but what about the other planets! another thing making it illogical it could not loggically and is not a probable story...just isnt..

That's an interesting question coming from an obvious Christian. Christians are renowned for their evangelism. Evangelism is just a fancy word for questioning faith. To turn toward your God, isn't it necessary to turn away from some other presently held belief? I am not an atheist, but it strikes me as just plain irresponsible to put all your eggs in the basket of a God that commands his followers to kill women and babies. It is not taking "Bible verses out of context" to point out that the Old Testament God does this repeatedly.
You wouldn't research wicca or satanism? How can you hope to convert people that you don't understand? Don't get me wrong, I don't want to convert anybody to anything. If your faith gives you comfort, I'm in favor of that. The world is a scary place and people are looking for answers. I just don't think that any religion that uses the Bible as its basis should fear (or even mind) being challenged. Rather, I think people of every faith should welcome challenges. From cognitive distortion comes learning and growth.

i mostly like to speak for myself but as an atheist I use the bible only to glean what worth I can find and the misinformation that happens can sometimes be turned around to some good purpose . So I hope you don't misjudge my motives or intentions
I much like to deal with the here and now and replace goodness for god cause I believe a different kind of thinking is both more understandable and honest for people who want good morals with out the sugar coating of antiquated taint.
If people corrected people even the worst god which I think is impossible would judge in favor of their goodness if he didn't then he is Satan and I still don't believe in either or any other super natural thing.
Peace out and happy holidays

I am an atheist, I do not read the bible, but christian people frequently use the bible as a justification for their opinions and doings. When I am confronted with bible citations, I will of course critically examine them. And since I see the bible as an invention of humans full of fiction and forgery, and a christian deems it a holy book, I am regarded as disrespectful ...

Many of us who have made the choice to leave christianity have read the bible, and what we post here does not come from some new research we are doing just to frustrate you--it is born of our own disagreements with what the bible doth say

Is there anything wrong with rebutting, its a statment to provoke an answer. It means someone is seeking further opinions bcoz the ones he has are probably insufficient. Keep the faith, am yet to decide mine.
