StartMenu>Run
Type "msconfig" and run
select startup tab and uncheck the Startup program you don't want.
You may restart to see the effect

I use an option in spybot search and destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/ which allows you to remove startup items. It also scans for adware. Once installed set it to advanced mode from the menu bar and there is a option for system startup under tools on the left.

The other options would be to run msconfig from start -> run -> msconfig or to open each program and change the option in the preferences to start with windows

goto start, then run, then type in msconfig and you will get a box that will let you disable auto start up
