This happens a lot with short-nosed dogs, like pugs (can't remember the technical term for it.) I accompanied a co-worker to the vet with his pug who had similar symptoms, and the vet said it was quite common for the breed, especially in the heat. Take it to the vet and see what they say, but I'm pretty sure it's a common occurance in the breed.

It is probably a reverse sneeze. Bizarre and scary. But it happens to short nosed breeds like pugs, shih-tzus etc. Some just like to be comforted until it is over, others just want to be left alone until it is over. There isn't really anything that can be done, it just happens. I have been told going from a warm house into the cold or cold into a warm house may trigger it. Or getting overly excited can trigger it to happen. If it happens a lot, I would contact your vet, it may be something else. But that is what it sounds like to me.

i don't know about Pugs... I'm pretty sure they have bad sinuses. It might be kennel cough... or I read that pinesol, if breathed directly by the dog, can cause their throat and nasal passage ways to burn and irritate... it makes them breath weird through their nose. I have a small dog that has always heaved in and out through his nose, like he's trying to clear his nose out. I dont know what it is... but I dont think it's that serious. Here's a link about pugs breathing problems... hope you find an answer! Good luck!

That's a common pug issue, due to the odd shape of their snout.

She may have a cold, ate something or has hair in her throat. Just watch her. Give her water. If she doesn't get better take her to the vet.

this is a common problem in short nosed or brachiocephallic dogs. you should take the dog to the vet incase there is something that can be done, or needs to be done.
