Hi -- I have so much to do, so I have decided I must pull an all nighter. I hate them, but there is just no time for sleep! Anyway, I am trying to finish up a paper, but my eyelids are growing heavy, and it's getting harder and harder to concentrate. Any other ways (besides coffee.. I've been doing that all night!) to keep yourself awake and alert? Thank you!

Take frequent 5 minute breaks. Get up, walk around, little snack, go outside, I have a quick ciggy, thats how I've pulled off all nighters.

The human body is actually amazingly efficient in most areas, and this is definately no exception. Something you may consider is taking a "power nap." If you're having a lot of trouble focussing, your productivity level is going to slow anyways, so making the time shouldn't be impossible.

I would try to sleep maybe 30-45 minutes, upto an hour, and then get up and get back on the ball. It will rest your body enough that it won't be prodding you to go back to sleep every waking second, and you should be able to get some work done that way!

Go outside...take a brisk walk. Get away from the computer and get outside for some fresh air. Turn on all the lights so that your body isn't getting the signal to sleep because its dark. At some point you will get a second wind and be fine. Good luck!

yeah, exercise is good. Help wake you up.
SO, get your sh*t done on time so you do not have to pull all-nighters! You body and mind need sleep. Get your work load to a level which fits in reality if it is not. I doubt you are planning on dying anytime soon, so relax, you have plenty of time to reach your goals.
There is no easier way to get sick like lack of sleep/getting run down. See how much you get done with a full blown case of the flu... or worse! =)

could you not take a quick nap because there is not much point in pulling an all nighter if you are too tired to think and end up making mistakes.
if you really have to - cool air on your face
good luck

there has been lots of good tips posted here already but i think the power nap would be best if you are brain dead and don't get a second wind-----------if you can get that 'second wind tho and a wee bit of exercise and fresh air it might invigorate your mental status enough to focus--------if clear focus is not possible then forcing a short nap would be logical.

If you dont smoke - have one. Nicotine is one heck of a stimulant. though it will make you light headed for a bit. By the way - dont pickup the habit regularly - it sucks outloud

Other wise. Alternate coffee and water and take a brisk walk every half hour or so (like for 5 minutes)

Good luck on the paper
