What is more frightening, the fact that there isn't an after-life or the fact that we don't have a purpose for living?

Why are we so desperate in believing in religion? Are we terrified? Is God our limit? Is there more, or is there nothing?

Is religion really the answer to everything? NO

What is more frightening, the fact that there isn't an after-life or the fact that we don't have a purpose for living?
bUT WE DO HAVE A PURPOSE. We can live grandly and have wonderful times and not so wonderful time for as long as we live.

There just might be something to the notion of some energy essence continuing. Does the catipillar know it will become a butterfly.?.

To the other questions. There are many levels of believing and not believing. I think there are many who do not really believe but they have loved ones who do so they keep quiet and just comune with nature.

Everyone has been given the light of Christ by God. This light can guide us to our true purpose. I believe it is this divine spark in us that guides people to things like religion and just general good living.

Of course people are afraid that there is nothing after death, and we also want there to be a purpose for what we do. Otherwise, it would seem very pointless to put up with the everyday boring and bothersome things that happen in life. Besides, there is a purpose.

Religion is man's attempt to complicate that which God intended to be simple.

Moreover, clearly religion provides more questions than it does answers. It's just the nature of the beast.

So what is the answer? Well it's really quite simple.

God loves you. He doesn't need a reason why and He doesn't even need you to know He does. He just does. That's what makes it so special.

Sure it sounds touchy feely and perhaps even a bit simplistic, but it really is that simple.

You get to decide your purpose for living. That's part of the gift.

2 * 2= 4 Therefore religion can answer mathematics for one believes this to be true and the proof behind it to be true.
# 2 - Try Pascal's Wager in the Pensees - 17th century landmark work on this.
Some are desperate in believing - others are ecstatic. I suspect a great deal depends on how one approaches and how open one is to finding.
Terrified - only the foolish would not be. Is God our limit - an oxymoron Exousia as I suspect you know. More - again an oxymoron. Is there nothing? Come, come, you are the one who has chosen Exousia.

A strong religious person thinks religion is the answerer to everything. A moderate doesn't. Without religion some dont know what to think. Fear is a big part of religion "fear god." God is the limit to some not to all. We dont really know if there is more. We cant let religion shut the door to thinking. We cant accept things in written in ancient times and call our selfs civilized.

Ex: Religion is never the answer to everything ... not even, nothing . As a Christian, I can tell you that in the end ... WE ALL [every human ever born] WINS !!! God is unlimited, therefore, we are in good hands and can trust Him to do the impossible [from a human perspective] and bring about, wholesome, change to both, our lives today and for all eternity. Jesus is Returning to this earth to do the impossible for us and we [ all humans ever ] will reap the benefits thereof. A very definite YES ... there is more than living, dieing, and being dead forever ! God promises that and He can and will do it for US ALL ! We all live now, for a future purpose, later !!! Jesus has risen from the dead to illustrate freedom from death, into life ! We will all have our turn ... everyone in his / or her time allotted !!! Merry Christmas to you !!!

Religion, isn't the answer of everything. Coz, you don't have the every answer, or you asked it wrongfully.
The fact that we don't have purpose in life, is make us a robot. Not human.
God is our limit. Yes it's real. More than that, there's God.

Whats easier to do, to say the unknown was created by an all knowing, all seeing, all hearing being that cant be sensed with any of the 5 senses, or having to figure out why we come back to earth when we jump up, why we have dusk and dawn, and why there is something rather than nothing.

It's alot easier to just blame the unknown on a "god" because of our ignorance rather than finding why something is the way it is. People want to believe that there is something more in life than just what you can taste, touch, see, hear, and smell.

Actually not having a pre-determined purpose of living is damn liberating! We set our own purpose of living. What is more frightening is people don't believe in this life and hence kill and destroy in the name of religion for the sake of a better afterlife that will never be.

It is a frightening thought to have no future, to not have a purpose for living, and as you've so poignently noticed people are desperate...

Is there an answer for these trials and tribulations...?

That is up to the individual to decide. In my case I was faced with these same questions early in my life and was brought up as Catholic...I was given no answers to my questions either...

I searched for my answers...is there an afterlife....is there a God....why do I have to do the christian stuff when i don't believe it.. and other questions...

I found my answers...other's have found their answers too in other places than me

I'm Buddhist...find your answers...seek and you will find...the answers are in your heart...what do you think about and believe...look inside....there they are...

To me and other Buddhists there is far more than you know...to others the same answer applies...is God our limit..? I cannot say...but ohers may...it depends on the questions for which you seek answers....

Be at peace with yourself...do not be afraid to seek....

Peace to you.....
