I'm not going to enter in car shows or anything, I just want a decent speaker setup for my sub, loud enough, but, not anything overly loud..

100 watts for a subwoofer is hardly loud. In fact, it will only play slightly louder than your regular component speakers. So you will be able to hear it, but that's about it. A subwoofer that is capable and that recieves about 400-500watts RMS should be good for the set up you're looking for. Anywhere between 400-700w RMS should be good for filling in the bass and enjoying your music. 1000w+ is where you get to the *loud* bass. Of course, it mainly depends on the type of woofer/amp, and even more importantly, the type of install (location and design of the enclosure).

100 watts you will not feel anything. you will need at least a 300Watt AMP with a set of 10 inch speakers 12inch if you want to feel the bass in your car seat. but not loud enough where a Cop would pull you over.

IM a guy who can't afford anything decent and also on a budget so I went to bestbuy and bought a insigna package where I got Two 12inch subs and a 360watt amp and had no troubles with it for over 2 years. For $150. YOu just you need to make your own box at 1.25 cubic feet. or buy a premade for $100 don't forget the $20 wireset to hook it up.

The speaker wattage doesn't matter. All thats saying is that the speakers can handle up to 100 watts powered by the amp. What really matters is the output of your amp or Cd player, but dont go over 100 watts or it will ruin your speakers.

Most home theater speakers are rated around 100-130 watts.
I'd say 100 would be fine if not a little on the overkill side for a car.

What's your budget?

I replaced every speaker (6 of them) in my truck, plus a 10" sub, a 600w Pioneer 4 channel, and a 760w Pioneer 2 channel (bridged - to run the sub).

This for $600.00 and my own sweat to install.
