I am myself a Hindu but still find it stupid. Actually in ancient times people did not understood the importance of water
sun, earth etc. to make them understand the ancient philosophers called these things as gods and worshiped them.
these thinkings passed on from generation to generation and are
still alive

Well, Don... the Hindu's have been around longer than any religion, 6000 years or so, and they're an inventive bunch, I'd guess. Give Christians 4000 more years and they might catch up. They've already gotten to three Gods, after all. They're just a little weak in math skills, like multiplication and procreation, perhaps.

POST SCRIPT to floyd: Wow, Floyd... that's a great overview of Hindu gods. Thanks a lot. I've been looking for something as clearly written as this.

Do not insult Hinduism if you can not understand Hinduism do not try to make fun of it.
Hinduism is the Oldest Religion and third largest religion which has given birth to Buddhism,Jainism,Sikhism, and nearly Dozen other religions.
Hinduism is the only religion which is very secular and tolerant and never insults Christians, Islam,Buddhism etc.,.
Hindus teach that there is only one god but can take infinite number of forms. Like A woman can be Mother, Sister, Wife, and many more.
Please try to know more about this Secular, tolerant and oldest religion and I am sure you will respect its greatness.
Gita is again a Secular Holy text which teaches on how to lead a Peaceful life and it is very relevant to Modern readers because it teaches about Man Management, time management, skills to control Mind and senses. It is not like other religion Holy text which emphasizes on its own religion and God.

The universe is infinite, so it stands to reason that there must be an infinite number of gods. Shintoism is the same way, it was just the lack of a concept of infinity that brings about the huge fixed numbers of deities

Why do christians worship only 1? its tradition and culture.

Respect them as they do you, ive never seen a hindu disrespect a christian or any other religion. do the same to them,
You'll find life is much sweeter when you drop prejudice and invoke tolerance and love.
