Actually, there is not an instant pain reliever. Advil and Ibeprofen can help pretty quickly, but you don't want to be downing those everyday. The best plan, since you will be getting the braces tightened every month, is simply to eat regularly. The more you work your teeth the better. You will eventually get used to the pain. It will just be dull ache after while whenever you get the braces tightened. I found that eating before getting my braces tightened on that day helped so I wouldn't fear eating afterwards. Also, although your dentist may tell you not to chew gum, chewing gum will help. Chew a sugar free gum, preferrably dentyne sugarless. Make sure to only chew, not make it go all over your mouth. Good luck with your braces. Make sure you always brush and floss and swish with mouthwash.

I remember braces very well, they did hurt. Just a year ago I went to a wonderful dentist, I don't have braces now but get nasty cankor sores, huge things like dime sized, they hurt like dickens. My dentist recommended Prevention mouth rinse as it cleans things good and with braces I would recommend that, I got alot of cavities after mine were off, and then Zilactin toothache swabs, they are $4.97 at Walmart, you get 10 in a package, they are 20% lidocain and that numbs really good! You can also get a product called Hurricane at the pharmacy, then there also is pure lidocain that you can get in a little bottle but that is prescription. I've tried it all on those sores and those are the things that really work.

nothing.. it will go away in one to two days.. you'll be fine.
Avoid food like lettuce or anything you think you can crunch on .. even after you think the pain has gone away...
There is nothing like the day you get your braces taken off.. you look great.. you'll be shocked!

honestly try taking Ibprofen or advil but it probably will take away all the pain. I am sorry just pace yourself and don't schedule ortho appointments before holidays or parties because it maybe hard to eat. Just think about the gorgeous smile you will have soon. :)
