I'm 22 and I've never been a big drinker, but when I was younger I used to be able to drink quite a bit of alcohol. But, now I have four or five drinks over the course of a night and I'm so hungover the next day I can barely function. I don't make a habit of this, as I said before, I don't even like to drink that much. But, in the last six months, the three times I've drank more than a couple of drinks, I've gotten terribly hungover the next day. I didn't even feel that drunk the night before, but by the next day...wow...
I'm in college and it seems like some of my friends can drink 12-15 beers in a night and not be hungover the next day, but I have five and can't get out of bed till 2 p.m. Also, I'm a woman (if you can't tell already) and I'm of average height and weight and pretty healthy.
I don't know if this is normal? Is it just a sign of me getting older or that I have a low alcohol tolerance now cause I don't drink much anymore?

One thing you may want to consider is, you may have an allergy to the beer. Sometimes people that drink beer and are allergic to any of the ingredients in beer get a major hangover. They get really bad headaches and feel very sick the next day.
The other consideration is a hangover happens after drinking alcohol due to the dehydration effect the acohol has in the body. The brain shrinks when dehydrated and this is where you get a hangover, try drinking a glass or two of water between each alcoholic drink, then before going to bed drink at least 3 to 4 glasses of water. If you do this you may find that you body does not get as dehydrated and if help your hangovers.

The best thing you can do is drink a glass of water after every 2 drinks this will keep you from getting dehydrated , that is the reason you feel bad the next day , try it , it might help you . The link below explains what a Hangover is and how to prevent or lesson the symptoms.

tolerance for alcohol can develop if you drink alot, however that only increases your body's ability to get rid of it from your blood by 1-3%. it also has nothing to do with why you have hangovers (it just helps u drink more). there is no magic cure to hangovers and to prevent hangovers - dont bother wasting your money on "chaser" pills because they're full of nothing that wont work. everybody seems to have their own way of dealing with a hangover and depending on your symptoms you can target them too. ie: if you've got a headache then tylenol works - just dont take it when you take your alcohol together! i'd try having some water while you drink, it may fill your stomach faster but it generally helps the next day.
there are many possible reasons why you might be getting worsening hangovers ranging from as simple as you're dehydrating more than before or as severe as your kidneys arn't working properly.

It does become harder as you get older to handle the hang overs. What causes it mostly is dehydration. A few things that have helped me in the past:
1. Drink as much water as possible, certainly try to have a couple glasses before bed.
2. Taking a multi-vitamin before a night of drinking helps.
When you wake up with a hangover I highly recommend drinking Gatorade and eating as much as you can.

It's mainly because you don't really have much tolerance to that kind of stuff. As you said, you weren't a big drinker, so you'll feel the effects much harder than those who have a better tolerance, such as your friends. People respond to drugs/alcohol differently so don't worry so much about if it was normal or not.. Just don't drink and drive. I'm gonna stay off the road if you do, lol =D
EDIT
WOW!! PEOPLE, DON"T COPY OFF OF WIKIPEDIA, it is getting so freaking old. It doesn't take a genius to do so, but it takes one to give an answer with care... Freakin A...

Take "Chaser" pills with your first drink. You can find these at GNC or other drug stores. Its an herbal blend that helps flush out some of the toxins in the alcohol and replace the vitamins you loose from drinking alcohol.
Theyre great, never had a hangover when ive taken them.

You know.. I have never been able to drink a whole lot either. So, I gave into only drinking two glasses of what ever is on the table and I find I have no hang over and no problems the next day. I guess you might say we are light weights. But then again . Its nice to know our limit. We don't drink to get drunk. we drink to be social.

You do have a lower tolerance for alcohol now that you aren't drinking as much as often. I went through the same thing. I kept blaming it on age, but it was essentially more of a lifestyle change...drinking is not really all it's cracked up to be...I decided the morning after just wasn't worth it.

SORRY. This sounds like a few little coeds goofing off! So in my opinion you should just except the fact that your getting old and except the fact that anyone over 22 should quit drinking and go play bingo. Hope you have a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a very sober New Year. If bingo is too strong try scrabble.

Possible reasons...
lower tolerance
how is your overall health compared to when you were younger?
smoking?
any reason you are more dehydrated now?
Not eating a full meal before drinking will also leave you MUCH more hung over I've found.
...otherwise, try talking to your doctor if these do not seem to be the answer.
