ask them what they will pay for...then go to your doctor. Half of the people that answer these questions are knuckleheads, so take my advice.

If they aren't paying for alprazolam (sounds like a Medicare Part D plan), then they likely won't pay for anything in that category.

im not sure how equivalent they are, but in the same class of medications *anxiolytics* there are Xanax , the brand to your alprazolam, also i know of Ativan, Buspirone HCL, Chlordiazepoxide HCl, Oxazepam, Midazolam HCl, Paxipam, Lorazepam, Diazepam and a few others. talk to your doctor, also a local pharmacist would be able to talk to you about any other meds that might fall into that class and can be used as a treatment option. And ive seen some people comment about if they wont pay for the generic, they wont pay for anything. This is not true. Your plan more than likely has a formulary or a list of drugs they will cover...some generics may not be on this formulary. As i said, talk to your doctor, he can give you more alternatives, when he does this, call the number on the back of your rx card, and have them check the drug coverage. they can price the medications and give you aproximate copays. good luck.

That is the generic for xanax. If your insurance won't pay for the much cheaper generic, they are not going to pay for the name brand. It is quite a bit more expensive. It is probably the drug itself...a lot of doctors and insurance companies don't like it because it is so addictive and abused.

Diazepam, more commonly known as Valium is very similar to alprazolam

If your insurance will not cover a generic drug ask them what they will cover so your doctor can write you another prescription for that name brand.
