This is an interesting claim made by Prof. Shanon but hardly a new one.Minor problems with this thesis, if indeed that's what it is. First the drug concerned is ayahuasca, which according to the Professor is what he personally tried. It is found in the Amazon Rainforest. Moses was lost in the desert but I don't think he was anywhere near there. If anything the drug concerned were possibly the psilocybe mushrooms which are found in the area Moses was in. I refer you to a book called The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross: A Study of the Nature and Origins of Christianity within the Fertility Cults of the Ancient Near East by John Marco Allegro. This covered the same ground very exhaustively and would certainly be of interest to Prof.Shanon. This is highly speculative stuff and with all due respect to the learned Professor Shanon there is quite much more research and biblical exegesis to be done before one can make such assertions. It makes for good media interest and of course would be supremely interesting to the fraternity who wish to see God staring back at them from the far end of a bong.

God can be what ever he wishes to be, the reason for the burning bush was so that Moses would see it from afar, God was calling him that way, God communicates in so many ways, and another reason is no one can see God's face and live, his Glory is to much.

One of the symbols of fire in the Bible is for God's Divine Present.
It is also seen in the pillar of fire, that guided and camped with the Children of Israel by night.

Most of these 'visions' in religious texts can be accounted for by drugs (hallucinogens like mushrooms especially!)

Please do your homework. In that area of the world, there is a bush which secretes a flammable substance. The bush can burn...the secretion...and yet not burn.
