Hi!, Jeannie Kathleen,.....I'm only answering because I haven't talked to you in a long time. I've read the answers already received, and I have little to add. The fact is, India is predominantly Hindu, and though there are other religions, the Christians are very definitely in the minority. Perhaps because of this fact the Christians there celebrate Christmas with more of the true meaning the holiday is supposed to inspire. Commercialism exists, of course, human nature is universal, but the profit motive is less evident because it's not economically sound. I have found this true in other parts of the world where Christ's dictate to love one another is far more evident among His followers because of isolation, prejudice, or persecution. I find it both ironic and sad that the true meaning of Christmas has greater significance in predominantly non-Christian countries. I didn't know you lived in Japan, but whatever your religion, I wish you and yours the universal hope of all of mankind: peace and joy.

There are many Christians in India. All shops and malls and streets are illuminated during Cristmas like any other Hindu festival. I am a Hindu. We love to celebrate Christmas. We generally go to club on Cristmas eve. We believe god in any form. Whether Jesus or any other god it is the same for Hindus.God means a superor force for us. Merry Christmas.
