I think the tug or calling is strong and just keeps moving you that wa until you go in that direction. It's not an easy life because you end up telling a lot of people things they'd rather not hear.
Now, please don't go overboard. We ministers are humans.
I drink some wine because the Dr. says its wise and I like wine. I like good German beer too. I do not get drunk. it's about moderation. I quit smoking years ago for my health, God doesn't like me less or more either way.
I am married and have sex, good sex, and when I was single I had sex if I was dating someone long term. It is natural. God expects us to be human and even ministers sin. No one can not sin. No one!
DO NOT put pressures on yourself you cannot hold up to over the long term, It will make you miserable, perhaps intolerant and negatively affect your ministry.
God is pleased by how we love others and help and care for them, not about avoiding a glass of wine, beer or even a fine cigar, or especially the pleasures of our mate.
If you are people focused and not object focused you will be happier and a miserable pastor is a misery indeed.
God implores us to eat, drink and be merry! That's right there in the bible.
If you place these unreasonably high and not very realistically human standards on yourself and then falter and you will, in some way, it will be a serious problem for you, it could destroy your ministry or worse. We just can't do it!
All things in moderation, people first, including yourself and be able to forgive yourself, if you can't, then you can't really forgive others.
Best of luck on your journey!
Godspeed my friend!

I hate to say this but your statements about "interested in being a priest" and "i do not have sex, smoke, drink all because that is what i feel will appease God" lead me to believe you don't have what it takes to be a good Pastor and the world already has enough perverted Priests.
I'd suggest you find a NIV Study Bible and do a lot of reading, meditating. and praying. Try to remember that the Old Testament is just a history book and the two commandments in the New Testament are how we should live our lives today. God Bless!

your asking this type of question on Yahoo disqualifies you from being a pastor. If you don't know the answer then you have no business pastoring others. Your comment about appeasing God reveals you know very very little about Christianity and being a follower of Jesus. I would strongly recommend you read your Bible daily, pray daily, praise God daily and focusing on doing acts of kindness, which would be a tremendous ministry without taking on the responsibility of leading others. The more you know God's Word the clearer you direction will become.

Pastors are called of God.. I am a Pastor & Missionary and am not in it for the money.. Being a Pastor is a difficult job and if you are not called you don't want to get into it. If you are not married, you really need to be married to fulfill the position of Pastor.
You will know if you are called to be a Pastor, God will let you know inside. You also must pray and recieve guidance as to what you should study and where. If you don't know that God is guiding you, the wait on him and pray and FAST.
Do not listen to all the advice about money and fame, being a real Pastor is not about that..
YOU MUST HEAR FROM GOD, there is no way around it..

Pray and ask God what he has planned for you, the calling will come from the heart, always follow your heart because that is where God communicates with you. If you feel the calling to be strong then it is so. I became a Pastor when I felt it heavy on my heart, and I pray that God reveals his plan for you. God Bless.

Pray a lot about it. Ask God to reveal His will to you. I think you should start seminary school and see if it right for you. Perhaps that is where God is calling you. Did you mean please God or did you really mean appease God? There is a BIG difference between the two. We don't serve God to appease Him.

If yoiu are going to be a pastor, not a minister, I suggest you take comparative religions, and business. After all, most pastors are really in it for as much money they can get.
If you aren't sure, you aren't meant to be a minister, take business or computers that will make you enough money to live off, and get yourself laid! Then after you are finishec university, if you still want to be a minister, take the university courses, and become a minister, not a pastor.

My first thought is this: If you must ask then its not meant to be.
I would pray about it for a month straight. Ask the Lord to show you if he has called you to be a pastor and to open the door to you. And if its the Lord's well that he leads you to be a pastor , you will know.

Would'nt it be nice sometimes if god or jesus just talked to you in plain english like someone standing next to you. Or like in the bible where the angels told mary she was to have a child. In the bible when someone had a calling it always seemed like they were told outright and had no questions at all.
