You should get a miniature dachshund or even standard, and smooth hair so you don't get so much hair shredding in you home. They are small and you can take them with you everywhere, they are loyal but need to be train so they will listen to you, and if you got them trained they are a very good guard dog they will alert you when they hear something suspicious around your house especially at night.

don't get a pinscher they bark alot.

Just be kind to them, if your alone i suggest you get 2 dogs so they won't be lonely when you leave them (job, church) and always let somebody know when you leave your house (like a friend) in case something happen to you (knock on the wood) that they will look after your dog.

please be kind to whatever dog you get. :)

don't get a pinscher they bark a lot.

I would suggest a Papillon and a Toy Poodle or two Papillons. I don't know anybody with a toy Poodle but I know someone who owns a Pap; they are FANTASTIC dogs. Toy Poodles have lots of energy, they need a fair bit of exercise to keep them happy (a run around the house and a short walk a few times a weeks would be sufficiant). Papillons are cute, energetic, smart and fairly easy to train. All small breed dogs take longer to housebreak as their internal organs take longer to develop. If you're getting a small breed, expect to be putting in several months to housebreak the puppies.

I do not suggest a Terrier of any sort because:
a) They are FULL of energry. b) If bought from an irrisponsibl breeder, they WILL have temperament problems. c) They can be VERY aggressive towards other dogs and other household animals. d) They WILL run from you (if not on the leash) if they see a rodent or small animal no matter how much you try and call them back. e) They can be VERY stubborn. f) They love to dig under fences and they love to jump over fences - putting chicken wire under the fence is a must.
Please research ANY breeds that you are considering to make sure they have the right temperament that you desire.

Hi Lockdown, First of all KUDOS to you you're smart for getting two dogs, the reason being you go to work and your dog would go bonkers with boredom and more importantly loneliness. They all need another one of their own kind to interact with, they'll love you like crazy but when you are gone doing human things like work / recreation you are away from them for extended periods of time and they will get lonely. Also if you get a male and female, PLEASE make sure you get them spayed and or nuetered! Now as to what kind to get, it really depends on where you live. Do you live in an apartment? or in a house and if you live in a house It probably would not matter what the breed, however if you live in an apartment you may want to consider a breed that is not a big barker as you know you are living in close proximity to others and you don't want complaints from your neighbors. Your local library as well as any vetrinarian would be happy to give you a list of the right small dog choice for you based on your living arangements and needs and they will do that for free! Good luck to you in your search for the right dogs!

I wouldnt go by yahoo answers, this is definitely a decision you will need to make based on pure research on breeds whether online or by dog breed books. You want to take in concideration what you are wanting from that breed, how much time you have for the dogs, whether you want to pay for grooming expense's, potiental health problems the breeds have, and the breeds general personalitys, and your personal idea of a small breed from small yorkie all the way to shelties/ shibu inu size. For a basic search on breeds and breeders near you, you can begin for basics at (breeders.net) I also recommend the "dog bible" and the " complete book of dog breeds " both can be found at your local petsmart.

Get a WESTIE, yes they are a terrier but they don't have that much energy. Chihauhaus have ALOT more energy. Westies don't shed, they are very intelligent so training them isn't bad, they are friendly, love everyone from children to eldery folks. Don't get any kind of lap dog cause they are bred to be companion dogs so they always want to be around people so when you leave to go to work or out they will cry and have a hard time. SInce Westies are indenpendant by nature they don't mind when you leave to go to work or out. And you don't have to take them to the groomers that often. ALso, pugs have breathing problems due to their smushed in faces.

It depends on what kind you like, how much you'll be home, if you have cats, what you like to do. Normally I would recommend a Lhasa Apso, but since you want two that would not be a good dog(also good watch dogs, can tell between friend and stranger, if brought up around other people I mean socialised well can be really good with people). I have one. :) Bichons are good, but require a lot of attention. My mom has one. :) Chiuaua's are a yappy dog and aren't always good with other people. Spaniels are really good dogs. mini pinchures too. Mixed breeds tend to have less health problems and are cheeper. A shelter might be the best option for you.

instead of supporting breeder who bring unnecessary animals into an already over populated world why not try a shelter? for every dog in America to find a home each PERSON would need to adopt 7 dogs, that's 28 dogs for 4 person family. shelter have pure bred dogs but also have mutts that have great personalities. I'm positive if you looked you could find a dog or puppy (or two, as you said you want) that fits your needs. look around and if you see a dog you like spend time with it to see if you click. you're really the ideal because sometimes there are siblings at shelters that would like to be adopted together but usually have to be put down because no one wants two.

good luck in finding a dog, i hope you at least consider checking your local shelters.

this is not meant to offend anyone, I'm not trying to put down your answers. I just wanted to point out that someone mentioned above that pugs snore, this is because they were bred to have snouts like they do, which causes many problems as simple as snoring or more serious like breathing problems. many breeds are prone to all different kinds of diseases and defects because they were bred to look good, not for health. even htose from good breeders that take health into consideration are still prone to more problems because the breeds have long roots with such problems. that's not saying every pure bred will have a problem, or mutts don't, but buying specific breeds is supporting breeders and encouraging them to breed unnecessary animals (often with little concern of health problems) because people want pretty animals.

That depends on you. Visit www.akc.org, and browse all of the dog breeds. Do you want an active dog? A lazy dog? An obedient dog? An independant-minded dog?
There are lots of different breeds for lots of different lifestyles.

An Italian Greyhound. They weigh 10-15 pounds and most are relaxed dogs who like to chill out.

My sister swears by her chihuahuas. They are very cute, but kind of snippy. My son and his wife have a Cairn terrier and she is a very sweet, smart little dog . My mom always had Lhasa's but they are high maintenance as far as grooming, but are also very sweet, smart little dogs and just adorable! Good Luck!! I think the right little dog will find you! Don't discount a little mutt at the pound either, they can be the best dogs!
