I'ld have to go with Garnier Nutrisse. I've tried other brands, but I like Garnier the most. The color seems to last longer. Also, it doesn't damage your hair if you leave it on too long. They cut off the water when I was in the middle of dying it a couple of years ago and my hair and scalp were fine.

RE:
Best hair dye brand?
I am a hair-dye virgin. Whats the best drugstore brand to use? I'm not making a huge change, just about 3 shades darker brunette.

I've tried all different brands and salons but they always end up drying up my hair.
Colorsilk by Revlon is actually quite good and it's not tough on your hair because it's ammonia free. Unless you have a lot of gray hair then colorsilk is the way to go. Leaves your hair in really good condition after you apply it.

I'd say *Clairol*. I started using it about 7 months ago and have stuck with it ever since. My natural hair color is a very light brown, almost with a tint of red(from my father's side of the family) and I dyed it Black the first two times. I now currently buy Blue/Black by *Clairol* which is the same color/brand that was used by Elvis Presley.

I love anything by L'oreal but Feria is good. I would atleast talk to a stylist before you do it. If your kind of unsure get it done at the salon hte first time then you can keep the colour with at home dye.

Non, store bought hair dyes contain metallics, which damage and dryout your hair, go to your local beauty supply store and get a color there, tell the clerk that you're new at coloring your hair, and they'll tell you what to buy and how to apply it, and since you're going darker and not lighter, you wont have a problem.

i have been dying my hair for nearly 20 years... i've used a lot of brands but i always go back the garnier nutrisse... i started going grey at the age of 18... by 23 i was salt and pepper... the grey hair was course and ugly... of all the brands i chose the nutrisse conditioned my hair best and made the grey seem less course... and as long as i don't let my little grey skunk stripe of roots show no one says to me "what kind of hair dye do you use" ... they say... you have beautiful hair...
