The first time you get your braces on your teeth will be very sore for about a week. You will want to eating very soft food. The less chewing you do the better. Tylenol or Ibuprofen can help with the discomfort. Every 6-8 weeks you will go back in for adjustments, your teeth will only be sore for about a day or two. Rubber bands help with the movement of your teeth. Please wear them as the doctor instructs you to do. If you do not wear the rubber bands it will take ALOT longer to achieve the results you want. I am a Registered Dental Assistant and I had braces for 2 years. The small amount of pain is well worth the award of a beautiful smile. And please brush and FLOSS them daily. You would hate to have been in braces for a few years just to go back to the dentist for fillings.

any headache medication will help, but make sure you have something in your stomach with things like tylenol. Im sorry to tell you this but your gonna be in alot of pain for awhile while your teeth adjust, DONT EAT ANYTHING HARD! your teeth are moving and youll 4run the risk of a) breaking a tooth or b) breaking your braces

If you are not allergic to it, go your nearest drug store, Wal-mart, or any other store that sells it and buy (or have someone else buy) you some Anbesol and put it on your gums. That should ease the pain for you for now. Then the first chance you get, talk to your dentist and tell them that your braces are hurting you and what do they recommend or what can they get for you. Also, don't forget to tell your dentist that you have already used Anbesol to help ease your pain.

I hope this helps you out. Good luck!

Aleve...it works the best..i had braces for a year..and the trick is...before you got them on..you should have taken a pain killer (such as aleve) before to ease the pain..and an hour later..taken another...so next time you go..and they are going to "tweak" the wires...take a pain killer before hand and you won't feel it as bad!..but for now..just take an aleve..and go to sleep...eat lots of soft food and soups...the pain will ease with in a week!!..good luck..and once you fall asleep you won't notice the pain!
