We live in an apartment complex. My wife works from home so someone is always home but the mail man comes at various times sometimes 10am sometimes 5pm. So we cant just keep checking all day and usually the office closes around 5pm. He automatically delivers all packages to the office. If I am not mistaking we pay when paying for shipping for atleast an attempt at delivering to our place. I would much rather him leave it at the door than just take it to the office. Any advice? I dont want to say anything and then next thing you know our packages and mail starts mysteriously disappearing??

Ignore the people that are saying give him a tip or some kind of gift. He needs to do his job, and you shouldn't have to give him anything extra for it. First, check with your apartment manager and see if there is some sort of policy that he is supposed to deliver it to the manager's office. If not, then call 1800-ASK USPS and they'll either be able to assist you, or give you the number of the station that handles your mail by looking up your address. Just let them know that you're not sure if your mail man is unaware that he is supposed to deliver the package to your door, and tell them it's a huge inconvenience for you to have to go to the office and you'd like them delivered to YOU, not the managers office. If he doesn't start delivering them to you, ask your post office for the number for the consumer affairs that they deal with.

The post office is suppose to deliver to a person, not an address. Hence, why you can get your mail forwarded. Delivering your packages to the office is not delivering them to you. I am sure if you let you mail person know that there is always some one home I'm sure he/she would much rather drop a package at your apt. rather than lug it to the office. If you want to give your postal person a Christmas gift, that is up to you and is a good way to show you appreciate all he/she does (delivering mail in the rain can't be fun). Just know that they are a federal employee and un-able to accept cash or gifts worth more that $15.

It should not be considered rude. However, you might want to check at the apartment office. In some areas (particularly California), all mail is delivered into locked boxes if it fits. If it doesn't fit in the mailbox, it is automatically delivered to the office. The office, however, could inform the postal carrier that they cannot accept packages for you and they had to be delivered to your door.

I understand your dilema, but look at it from the mailmans point of view. He/she has to deliver allllll these letters and parcels AND try staying on schedule then YOU ask for delivery up your door? Most apartments have a locked PO Box for each tenant and you have your own key to check your mail at YOUR convenience. If you don't have this, you need to talk to apartment manager about installing some.

all you have to do is go to your local branch office and say you want all your shipments taken to your door you or who ever pays postage pays for it to get into your hands and your hands only. if the package gets missing for some reason from the desk office that is a whole new issue cus you are going to deal with 3 company's that do not want to be involved in who has to pay .. the office the supplier an the post office. just talk to the head clerk an voice your issue to them

Check with his boss, the POSTMASTER. I believe the postman is breaking the rules on proper mail delivery and the boss needs to know.
Every piece of mail MUST go to it's proper address, anything else might be considered stealing the mail and there are FEDERAL penalties for doing that.
Contact USPS.com to get the ball rolling....

At some apartments the policy is for packages to be left at the office to insure they aren't stolen. That's how it was where we used to live from what I recall.

Not that I think this is necessary but... if you wanted to ensure they always get there with a smile, you could slip a gift certificate to Starbucks in a Christmas card. A ten dollar bill looks cheap but a ten dollar Starbucks is coffee for two days! Anyway, people just want to feel appreciated. This small gesture could make your life so much easier when he agrees to deliver to your door.

You can ask, but he may or may not agree to it. You'll just have to see.
