A direct flight from LAX to MIA would take about 4 hours and 42 minutes, 2,336 statute miles. You can get flight time estimates at: http://www.jets.com/

As there are no non-stop flights from any airport in Maine to Califnornia, you will have the added time of a connection. So alot depends on different factors. Lets assume you are in portland. Most likely you will connect through Detroit, Cinnicantti or Chicago. That flight would be about 2 hours. Then the average layover time of about 1 hr 15 min. Then you tack on another 4 hours to get to california. So you are looking at roughly 7 hours plus of travel time. Not counting how far you might need to your airport in Maine. If you connect in Boston your flight time will probably be slighty longer as you will be going a little more out of your way.
