That is so sad...my heart goes out to your dog...you took her babies away too soon...the dog is ready to let go of her pups when she pushes them away herself and they start to prefer to romp around without mom.

It depends on how old the puppies are, if they are not fully weaned yet and how you weaned. If you just abruptly stop allowing the puppies to nurse, the mother will cry because of the pain in her breasts from the milk not being drained.

Puppies should start being weaned at 3-4 weeks and be fully weaned at 5-7 weeks. This should be a slow process, so to allow the mother time to dry up and the puppies to learn to eat more food.

If they are fully weaned and she is still crying, it will probably stop in a few days. If she still has the puppies, you may want to stick her in with them for just a few minutes.

Where are her puppies? Did they die? If so then DUH! you would cry if you lost someone you loved. Did you give them away? If so how old were they if and when you did? If you gave them away before 6 weeks of age they were not finished weaning yet. Animals especially mothers are very protective of their young. Hello! those were her children. They are there one minute and gone the next. People, listen up these animals have feelings too! If you lost someone you cared about ask yourself how long you would cry? If you took her puppies away from her she is reacting normaly and it will take her time to get through that. If you don't want to be driven nuts they look at it from her perspective and you might find that you have some understanding and compassion for her.

You obviously let the puppies go too soon. By the time my puppies leave, the mother is usually glad to be rid of them.

Hmm, I'd say about 2-3 weeks. My mom cat did that with her kittens. All she did was meow and was very depressed. It was sad and I cried because I felt bad and guilty for giving them away. But, she still recognized their cry after they were gone. (She got out and we had to get her back in, so we played a recording of the kittens crying.) I know it sounds bad but we had to get her inside.

she will cry for about 1-4 weeks depending on how emotional she is.
give her lots of hugs and attention as i am sure you would want that were it you in her place.
don't let her suffer alone.
if the sound of her suffering drives you nuts.. perhaps you shouild have her fixed. that would be the humane selfless thing to do.

first of all, you shouldn't get rid of the puppies until they are completely weaned BY THE MOTHER (not simply because they can eat on their own) and then by selling them one by one you gradually decrease the number of pups until you have none
and by that time the mother is tired of them also and won't miss them

Most dogs wont cry for her pups if they are old enough to have been weened---did you take them away too soon??? If so you not only hurt them but she could get mastites from making milk that is not getting used

I've no idea. Maybe you should ask yourself how long you'd cry if kidnappers took your baby away. Then divide by seven to get dog years.
