got nothing against jews, one of my best friends is a jew
but i believe giving them someone elses land was illegal
forget the whole "god promised us two thousand years ago" stuff
it doesnt matter...if the powers really wanted to help they could have offered to take them in their countries and give them equal rights...or coulda carved out a piece of their own land
i believe that due to this illegal occupation of palestinian land (who had nothing to do with the holocaust anyway), the insurgency is doing nothing wrong if they restrict targets to the israeili military
i do believe though that the killing of innocent civilians is completely wrong and terrorism should be immediately stopped

Firstly- most of us in the English speaking world spell it Israel.

I've been there twice on vacation- and am seriously, incredibly impressed with the place. The nation was founded more fairly than any on the planet, and they just want to live in peace. A rational review of the history (which is hard to come by in the media) sides highly with their validity as a country. The Palestinians, granted, got the shaft. They're being used as political pawns by the surrounding Arab nations, who could actually care less about them. (great op/ed in Time magazine last week on this)

It is to the credit of the visionaries and hard working men and woman that a homeland exists for the Jews. A group that has played by the rules, and yet has suffered more bigotry and destruction than nearly any other demographic group. You should see what they've done with their small sliver of land, against all odds. And then look outside their borders to the dysfunctional Arab states around, and then see who deserves to have a country.

If the Arabs put down their weapons, peace would break out in the middle east. Israel will happily offer back 97% of the occupied territories for peace treaties and recognition. If Israel put down their weapons, they would be decimated. Does anyone not believe this?

That's a touchy subject for a lot of people, but I'll bite.

I'm not racist or an anti-semite, but I've never understood what gives the Jewish race any more right to that piece of land than the Palestinians. The Palestinans didn't cause the Holocaust, the Germans did. Give them a piece of Germany if anything.

I don't see how they have the right to just push people off of their land and I don't really buy any religious/biblical reasons or claims to this land. They wouldn't stand up in court, thats for sure.

It's an incredibly devisive issue and the whole world is practically set on fire over it. We take enormous heat for being Israel's #1 supporter and for what? It is one of the biggest reasons we are in the terrorists crosshairs. We give them billions of dollars and all of our latest military hardware. Why? No one else gets treated as well as Israel does by the U.S.

I'm not saying we should abandon them, but why do we suppor them no matter what they do? Bulldoze a house ontop of some innocent Palestinian children? No problem, here's some more Apache helicopters guys. Good work!

Now, I know there are terrorists in Israel and the Israeli people have suffered enormously at the hands of suicide bombers. That is disgusting and barbaric and I don't condone it, but you are basically occupying someones country and oppressing it's people. What do you expect them to do?

Why does it have to be THAT f*cking piece of land? Can't the U.S. give them some BLM land in Montana or something? WTF? Is it really fair that my tax dollars are spent in supporting this state that everyone else in the world basically questions? Is it fair that my country is hated by terrorists more than it ever would be otherwise because of this support?

If the U.S. government put the support of Israel up for a popular vote in this country with all of the facts and figures made public, do you think this policy would survive? I'm not so sure. A lot of people must agree with common sense but everyone is so f*cking afraid of being labeled an anti-semite they won't dare say it and that its bullsh*t.

They are God's chosen people. In the bible it says that Israel should be protected by all Christians. Gen 12:1-3 & Gen 27:29 God will bless those that bless Israel. Gen 15:18 & Gen 17:8 Land was given to Israel as an everlasting possession. Exod 23:22 God will be an enemy to Israel's enemies. 1 Chron 16:14-18 Land was given as an inheritance for a thousand generations. Zech 12:1-3; 8-9 The Lord shall defend Jerusalem and destroy those that come against her. They might appear different in different versions of the bible but as you can see the word clearly says we sthould support and defend Israel. Any Jew that stands against Israel be condemed in his own land and any Christian who stand against Israel be not a Christian at all. Go in Christ

To the US, be proud for supporting Israel, a tiny country in the middle east, a bastion of Christianity being the birthplace of Jesus (Bethlehem, now Gaza Strip?). Israel is probably the only remaining balance of political and military power in that region where the world's oil supply is coming from. The world needs Israel and its peace-loving people.

I think it was given that land in 1948 as a strategic position for the western military. I think it was probably a VERY bad idea.

OK. I think that this country has been cursed ever since Roosevelt opted to support it.
