The problem is that Xtains don't understand the orgins or history of their faith. The assume this is some new evil way to eliminate "christ" when it is really from history!

No, it doesn't mean she's going to hell! This is a very mis-understood notion of many Christians. X is "Christ" in Greek. Greek is what the New Testament was written in. It's OK to say Merry Xmas but it's not a good idea to use it today because too many people don't realize it's real meaning.

I personally don't find it offensive, but many devout Christians do because you are removing the root word "Christ" from the words, obviously something that dedicated Christians would find offensive. I guess it would be like saying Thanksgiving was "T-Giving." I can see how replacing Christ with the symbol X can be offensive to some.

If people went to hell for the things they write, such as "X-Mas" instead of Christmas, we'd all be burning up by now. "X" in the old Latin means something akin to "most important," and that's enough for me. If Christ is most important to you and your mom, then don't worry about saying X-Mas. And for all those supposed Christians who get so uptight about "leaving Christ out of Christmas," they should just be secure in their own faith and trust in the Lord to take care of such minor things.

because those that are ignorant of the origin of the "x" and many that look for a reason to scream "persecution" get offended.
Personally the X does not offend me, for one, I know the origin and for 2 you can't take Christ out of Christmas if He was never there in the first place.
Those that really , truly seek to make it a nonreligious holiday (wehich it should be) dont use Xmas- they just say 'holiday'

Xmas isn't inherently offensive. Written in Greek, the word Christ begins with a letter shaped like our letter "X", which is why we use X for Christ.

No it does not mean she is going to hell. It is as far as I am concerned x'ing out Christ from the words Christmas and Christian and well I also think it is somewhat a lazy thing to do. It is not a sin though.

In general your mom has nothing to worry about except perhaps the rather narrow minded religious understanding you seem to have. However you are not alone. Anyone willing to condemn another to hell should consider Matthew 7:1&2

X in the early Greek texts of the New Testament was the first letter of Christ. During the early middle ages the Greek letter 'X' came to replace the name of Christ.
So its not blasphemous. Look it up. wikipedia.org

no it doesn't mean she's going to hell! some christians find it offensive because it is taking the "christ" out of christmas, which of course, is the real and whole meaning of christmas.
