a c unit clutch dont engage can u jump out switch under hood by the evaporator to see if goes on temperary if low on f12

Take connector off cycling switch, take a paperclip and bend into a u shape, insert ends into wiring harness, this should make compressor come on, do just to test..if compressor low in freon and oil, already, unit may be locked up, remove belt and try to turn pulley by hand, if you can not turn , bearing wore out, and seal is damaged..need new compressor, by the way the evap. is in closed case and common for this old of system to have leaks by now..

I would rather jump the terminals at the compressor, but if the light is on It is probably low on freon. Just put in a can and see. I don't see how a bad clutch could trigger the check AC light as it is triggered be lack of pressure.
