I was prescribed paxil for depression, but I also had social anxiety order, but didn't tell my doctor at the time. It did help with both.

Hi there!
In my experience, my therapist was just that... a talk, share, feedback, advice given, therapy session. I may tell my therapist that I have been put on meds and which ones. But IF you see that a person would do better under medication, then refer your client to a Psychiatrist who will go over your reports, then see the patient and discuss together with the patient what med's are recommended and why. I wouldn't want recommendations on meds from my Therapist. A therapist has a whole other area of expertise. I am on Paxil, by the way. Recommended to me by my Psychiatrist.
Also, social anxiety disorder and depression are in no way "kinda alike". One can suffer both, but they are not the same.
I hope this helped.
Good luck in your studies! :)

social anxiety disorders and depression are nothing alike. These medications are used to treat both but not because the diseases are the same. You could recommend it but understand that there are other medications out there for these conditions, but Zoloft is the main one that works for both.

Social anxiety and depression are not the same thing. Before you recommend ANY medication, you have to take into consideration the persons overall health and any other medical issues that they might have. You can't just go prescribing medication without a thorough physical exam.Paxil has alot of negative side effects.

As a therapist you should not recommend any specific drug. That is out of your scope of practice. You should refer to a good psychiatrist and they will do the recommendations.

Paxil is the worst antidepressant you can take unless you need to gain a lot of weight. You should try Effexor XR or Zoloft.
