I live in Kent. It's the south east of England. Personally I'm happy. We have a fantastic diversity of Colour, Weather, People. There are bad points but you get bad things everywhere. The History of the UK is also fascinating. Influences from other cultures throughout the past 2 thousand years or so have given us places like castles, cathedrals, palaces. and going back further in time Stone Henge. There's so much to see and do considering Its only a small Island. I'm including Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales in this too. They are such beautiful places.

It would definitely be a culture-shock from Texas. The UK is very different, but a good different. Generally, the English are not known to be as friendly as Texans, but they do have a good time with their friends and family. Once they get to know you, then I think you are well accepted. My best advice for you to see what it's like is get the British version of "The Office". It is on DVD sets and was the originally Office T.V. show before the American one showed up. That is the best way for you to see the difference among the cultures...and a few good laughs. I could sit here all day listing all the differences to paint a good picture, but I think if you get The Office show, you'll see if for yourself.

Seriously, UK is better than America. Texas is a big place right, surely it also has bad commutes, traffic jams all the way..
But there are many bullies and impolite youth in United Kingdom, especially in London. Where do you want to live? Scotland? Ireland? London?
