I planned to have all 4 wisdom teeth taken out at once in about 2-3 weeks, but now my top left wisdom tooth is really painful and causing great discomfort. I dont know if i can wait that long. so the recovery time is probably much longer if all 4 are taken out. I wanted to be asleep b/c i really can't stand the though of being awake while all 4 are taken out. so, if i decide to have only one taken out while awake, how long do i have to wait until the other 3 can be removed? they aren't causing me any problems. is it better to get it done all at once, rather than going in twice and having to recover twice? If im awake, how will i feel, what will i hear? im just apprehensive about staying awake and being aware of everything.

btw the reason i have to wait several weeks is b/c the oral surgeon needs authorization from my insurance first if i want more than one removed. I know someone else who can take one wisdom tooth out this weekend.

It does suck to have all 4 taken out at once but at least you get the feeling like crap over and done with. You're going to have to take a bunch of medicine regardless of how you do it so it's really up to you. If you need to get the one taken out right away though then do it.

The one that is bothering you may be infected. And if that s the case they cannt removeit until you have been on antibiotice to remove the infection. Having all 4 done at once or not won't effect your recovery time. Although having all 4 out at once will make it very difficult to chew and eat solid foods. I would suggest getting one side done first and then the other side. I had 2 removed while awake and the only reason they did not pull all of them at once was because I was pregnant at the time. You will hear alot of crunching as they have to break the bones to remove them. The 3rd one I was asleep for and I liked that alot more. You go to sleep for about 5 mins and then you wake up and it's all over with. Do not smoke or drink from straws until you are healed though. Dry socket hurts!

I had all four of mine taken out at once and i am glad i did because i would not want to go through it twice. I was fully under at the time so i had no idea what was going on during the procedure. The pain medication post surgery is great. It's a little hard to eat for about a week afterwards and you better hope you don't get "dry socket". It's not a pleasant experience. My bottom wisdom teeth were imapacted so they had to be cut out but the top two were fully erupted so they came right out with ease.

I had one side done first and the other a couple of weeks later. Trust me, if you don't get them taken out soon, the prescription drugs will quit taking effect after you've taken them for awhile, and you might get like I did a few years ago when I had severe pain with all 4 coming in at once, 2 of them infected. I'm Native American, so my tribal clinic was filled for 3 months before I could get my appointment. I was taking shots of whiskey at home just to relieve the pain to sleep, and you don't want to become a temporary alcoholic just to relieve dental pain!

I had all 4 of mine taken out at once. Two were what they call impacted. They put your to sleep and you wake up and its over. So, I felt no pain and really didn't need the pain pills they sent home with me, but its nice to have them just in case you do need them. If you are having that much discomfort with one right now it is a possibility it is infected. But, one of mine that was impacted did cause me a great deal of pain, way more then you feel after their gone.

I was supposed to have been knocked out (asleep) so they could take my wisdom teeth out, and at the last minute, the doc changed his sadistic mind about that because I admitted that I OCCASIONALLY used an albuterol inhaler for OCCASIONAL asthma symptoms.

unless you have really bad asthma and take medication for it daily or weekly, don't tell them that!

as a result, I was concious for the whole thing and it was excruciatingly painful, even with the little bit of valium and the novicaine.... not something I would have wanted to go through again, so if at all possible, I'd say try to get the whole thing done, all at once, and while you're asleep!

p.s. make sure you have someone who can drive you home and go to the pharmacy to get you your percocets... you'll need that sort of help.

Get all of them taken out at the same time.
That's what I did and boy am i glad I did it. I would of had never gone back for the other two, I was in pain for a week and a half. Plain to use a lot of ice on your face, it helped me a lot with the pain.

Its better to just go ahead and get all of them pulled so your recovery time is faster. Just slab lots of orejel on that one tooth. I had to make the decision of having all 4 pulled and im glad i did. I was only out of work for 2 days, but i was fine 1 day after surgery.

Yes it will be painful, but do you really want to go through the pain 2 or even 3 times? I would get them out all at once

An oral surgeon usually puts you to sleep to remove wisdom teeth. I would have all 4 removed at once and get it over with.
He will give you something for pain at home.
