HiD -
I traveled to Estonia this summer and used one of my mom's tricks.
While packing, I packed a few outfits into a gallon-sized Ziploc bag and pushed all the air out. It made it easier to get more stuff into my suitcase and also easier for TSA to search it if need be. They could see all the contents and I didn't have to worry about having anyone touch my stuff.
If you're looking for a way to keep stuff organised, try packing toiletries into a ziploc or several and placing that into one of those clear drawstring bags (like bath / gift sets come in)

If you're traveling in/from the US, check out the TSA website about prohibited items. It's at
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm
And I think it depends on the individual airport. It seems pretty ridiculous, but I just took a friend to an airport and she forgot she had a little bottle of lotion with her. They told her she could carry it on if she put it in a baggie. So even though they could clearly see it, they wouldn't let her take it.
Also, if at all possible, just put all the liquids in checked luggage.

You can have as many baggies in CHECKED baggage as you want, or even no baggies at all and just let that shampoo run around free inside your suitcase. No limitations on how much liquid you put in your checked bags, as long as none of it is explosive or flammable. Normal shampoo, conditioner, makeup, mouthwash, etc, you can have as much as you want in your checked bags. They are only restricting how much you put in your carry-on bags.

I believe the rule is what they call the 3-3-1 rule. You may have one 1 qt. clear plastic zip lock bag. In it you may put three 3 oz. containers with liquids. That is all. After you go thru security at the airport, you can go to the shops there and purchase other liquids. You can go to your airline's web site or call to verify this for yourself. Hope your trip goes well!

The ziploc bag only applies to your carry on, not checked luggage. In the carry on, you can only have shampoo and stuff in 3 oz bottles, and all in the ziploc (no limits on medicine, but you have to declare it).
You can carry everything you always could in your checked bags.
See the rules here:

You can have more than one clear container for non-carry on.
Don't stress... just get to the airport in plenty of time.
Happy holidays!
You can also check your airlines website for regulations if you are nervous.

No. You can more than one plastic bag, but they have to remain in your CHECKED baggage. They cannot be brought on board.
Happy Holidays. ^_^
