The only regions where religious people go to war seem to have exceedingly high illiteracy rates and no technological form of mass media i.e. no computers. The Dark Ages, the Middle East...places where there is nothing to do but worship God.

People are doing it the US, do you consider them sheltered? You may be right about them having a knowledge deficit, but it also has to do with their being controlled to think a certain way. The right lies told to the right people, especially when they are young, can lead to a lot of violence. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Lie

Did you think World War 1 and 2 were fought among the natives tribes of New Guinea? There is not a culture or religion or people group in the world that has kept itself from the plague of war. Indeed it is the supposedly more sophisticated who have elevated it to the degree where we are now capable of destroying the whole inhabited earth.

Well now, I won't go that far!

People go to war because their leaders and country tell them they have to.

Religious zealots, however, make the best warriors. They are generally far better at doing their job than ANY atheist could ever hope to be.

Atheists have nothing to live for and nothing to die for. They have no great cause. That makes them weak fighters.

Give me 100 Zealots against 1,000 common soldiers and I'll show you victory!

Dude, the U.S. has waged more religious wars than any specific Christian church. America forcefully spreads its gospel of democratic ideals by the sword!
