Please spend some time reading at this web site. I think you'll find the answers to all of your questions here. Dextromethorphan abuse is a huge problem, especially in high school kids. I refuse to sell Coricidin HBP Cough and Cold to young people. They refer to this product as "Skittles" and go eat the whole box to get high. They usually won't argue with me when I refuse the sale, because they know I know what they're going to do with it.

Check the label. Some cough syrups have heavy doses of alcohol. If he's taking an alcoholic cough syrup, it may be good to look into AA.

Wow, all hard questions and a delicate situation indeed which you ought to handle carefully. Without making a big issue out of it, talk to your son gently and make him understand the serious negative consequences of what he is doing and how damaging it could be to his overall health in the long run! Maybe consult your doc discretely (without telling your son is involved) and get some firsthand information on the misuse of the syrup in question!

well at least he's not getting high on drugs or the real stuff
talk to your son, some other kid might've told him about that(alot of kids don't know that cough syrup has alchoal)
i would say he would stay "high" for 30-45min
lol that's so weird i never heard of a kid getting high on cough syrup, kind of funny
watch out who he hangs out with also bad association can ruin people, such as if u hang out with a druggie ur most likely going to try out drugs especially with peer pressure and all......

cough syrup has alchol in it so it could affect his liver like it does an alcholic. plus the other meds in it like some have tylenol could also affect his liver. How long it takes i have no idea but i would lock up the cough syrup

Cough syrup has alcohol in it.
So he's getting drunk and overdosing on whatever else is in the bottle. I would be more concerned about how my acetametaphon there is in it. He could be killing his liver.

any amount of this without being under doctors care is to much. this can get him high or make him want to sleep a lot. he does it because it is easier to purchase than regular drugs and is cheaper. he need to be put in rehab, he sounds addicted. what he is doing is bad for him. he probably will not stop until something bad happens, we do not want it to be to late. get him into counseling now.

This is dangerous! Keep all meds away from him. Even toothpaste. He has a problem and needs help. Something might be going on with him to make him feel like he wants to get away from reality. He probably doesn't want to talk about it but he needs your help.

It takes about 30 minutes. He feels dizzy, tired, maybe heart palpitations. He does it because he likes the feeling and he can get his hands on it.
