Cakes today just aren't like the ones from the 70's and earlier. That heavy suger crystal butter cream icing that you could smell clear across the room. You can't find them anymore.

You are so right! Today's cake icing is horrible. I use my mom's recipe (she's 78). It's the best!
1/2 stick of butter
3 or 4 TBSP of milk
1 tsp vanilla
Add confectionary sugar until smooth
Just do the taste test until you get it where ya like it!

that was the best ever .my grandma used to make it all the time. i cant stand the stuff they make in the bakery now.just dont taste the same. just goes to show the old stuff is better.

yes, if you have ever heard of Jakie Spratt cakes she uses that AMAZING icing on pretty much all of her cakes. give her a ring.
