If your budgies are mature, and the ceres are blue, they are males. If they are still young, which you can tell if their head stripes go all the way up and their eyes are big and round, it's possible that as they mature, the cere could change to brown, meaning it is a female. That happened to one of mine. It started off with a blue cere and changed to brown after 6 months.

You should learn to hold the birds properly and feel comfortable doing so before you attempt to clip their wings or toenails. The back of the bird should be resting against the palm of your hand and your fingers and thumb against the wings, gently. Only a little pressure is needed under one wing for the bird to stretch out his wing. When it is fully extended you only need to cut about a third of the length of the longest primary feathers--the first 3 or so. Hold them up to the light so you can be sure you are only clipping the feathers, and not their delicate bones. You need to cut them on both wings so they can fly down to the floor without being lopsided. They just won't be able to get much lift or fly more than a few feet. When their wings are clipped they seem to realize they can't fly, or will find out after a first attempt, and will walk. If you don't feel comfortable in doing the clipping, bring them to a vet, or the pet store if there is a knowledgeable, trained person who can clip the wings for you.

Budgies all have different personalities--some may bite because they don't want to be held, they are frightened, or they just want to see how far they can go--what will happen if they bit this big thing? They find out a lot about things by putting them in their mouth, biting them, tasting them, etc. Always be gentle and talk soothingly to your birds. It may take them awhile to get used to you and their surroundings. If you are consistent, they will get used to you and realize you're not a threat.

When trying to train them, see what they like to do naturally, and encourage them with a little treat. I taught my birds to jump on a stick when I said "jump", which was useful when trying to get them back to their cage when I had to leave. I let them climb on the top of their cage, held a stick 5 inches away, and said "jump." Eventually they jumped on the stick, as they love to do, as I repeated "jump" and then I praised them and gave them a little treat. Then said "jump" and they jumped back to the top of their cage. After consistently doing this for a week, they associated "jump" with jumping on a stick.

So be patient, give them your time and attention, and they will become tame. Also, be sure to build them a parakeet tree where they can climb around on branches outside their cage. They need about an hour where they can exercise and flap their wings at least if they can't fly because they are clipped.

Enjoy your budgies!

Yes if they have a blue noses it means it's a male, if it's tan it's a girl. To tame them, you will need to show them that you are not going to hurt them, spend time with them, read to them, and talk to them. The proper way to hold a bird is to have your palm flat on the birds back, and have your middle and ring finger surrounding it's neck. That way you protect the bird's neck. As for clipping wings i would recommend you to have a vet show you how to do this. But what you do is you GENTLY spread the birds wings out and cut about 1/4 of the feather. It's better if you have a vet show you first, otherwise you might cut to far and hurt your bird.

YES THEY ARE BOYS IF THERE "CERE" IS BLUE..THATS THE PART JUST ABOVE THERE BEAK...AS FOR CLIPPING...TAKE IT TO A PET SHOP FOR THAT IF YOUR NOT EXPERIENCED..OR YOU WILL CUT THEM TOO SHORT AND THEY WILL BLEED TO DEATH..OR GET INFECTED.USUALLY THEY BITE IF THERE SCARED...OR JEALOUS...WHEN YOU HOLD THEM...DONT PUT YOUR HAND AROUND THERE CHEST...ITS DANGEROUS...HOLD THEM WITH YOUR HANDS AROUND THE SIDE OF IRD...SO YOUR NOT HOLDING THERE CHEST...WHEN TRAING THEM..PLACE A COVER OVER THE CAGE...EXECPT THE FRONT PART OF CAGE...DIM THE LIGHTS..TALK IN A CLEAR YET NOT LOUD VOICE...KEEP SAYING THE SAME THIN OVER AND OVER TO THEM...AFTER A WHILE...PLACE YOUR HAND SLOWLY IN CAGE..WITH YOUR FINGET OUT...AT FIRST JUST KEEP IT INSIDE FOR ABOUT 5 MINS...WITHOUT TRYIMG TO GET THE BIRDS ON YOUR FINGER...AFTER A FEW DAYS OF THIS...SLOWLY TRY TO PLACE YOUR FINGER UNDER THE BIRDS BELLY...KEEP TALKING TO HIM...HE SHOULD CLIMB ON YOUR FINGER...ALSO IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO SEPERATE THEM WHILST YOUR TAMING THEM....GOOD LUCK
