Monterey (in San Fransisco), Fort Monroe (Virginia Beach) and Schofield Barracks (Hawaii). But I imagine there are many other opinions out there. Regardless, the most important thing from my point of view is to thank you for your service!

Most army bases are in what we call army towns; pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Fort Belvoir and Ft Meade are near DC and Baltimore. I had more fun in 3 weeks at Ft Meade than I did in a year at Ft Hood.

Well, of course Ft. Richardson in Alaska has the best fishing. Ft. Lewis in Washington has the best sea scenery and the Cascades. And, Ft. Leonardwood in Missouri has the Little Piney and Big Piney rivers nearby and the Ozarks for extraordinary climbing adventures and canoeing. Chiggers are bad there, though.

Fort Bragg, N.C. close to Myrtle Beach and close to all the North Carolina colleges; Fort Campbell, Kentucky: less than an hours drive north of Nashville, Tennessee (Music City USA) and on the edge of the somewhat famous Land Between the Lakes area filled with numerous areas for hunting, fishing, camping, boating and other nature things; Fort Eustis, Virginia, close to the colonial areas of Virginia, a short drive from Virginia Beach and a few hous south of Washington, D.C.

John, Bragg just plain suxs, I was stationed there 4 times during my career.
Patois, get a room and you won't have to worry about those chiggers...
I prefer Sam Houston, Carson and Lewis. About the only Army bases located near respectable towns...
